    Smile Philippines

    Hi everyone,

Im heading to the phillipines on the 17th April, im all set for my trip and have an outline to where im traveling places include cebu, Bohol, Samar, Leyte, Boracay island and then back to cebu, with lots of site seeing and adventure seeking. Is any one going to be in any of these areas over the next 2 months that we could meet up for a drink and for some sight seeing and exploring?

    It's a shithole.
Overpriced hotels, crumbling infrastructure, even Mcdonalds has armed guards. Ripoffs everywhere you go. An absolute fucking dump.
    Anyway, have fun.

Horrible time to visit. Over 100 degrees already. Pre-election violence is picking up everywhere. Rolling brownouts every day in many parts of the country, and a looming water shortage. Enjoy.

Hey guys thanks for the heads up, but where are the positives, about my spelling, im not the best speller and i know that but it still gets my point accross. I would apprecitate it, if you reply to the request and not how bad it is, REQUEST is, if you are there around the same time and want tp meet up let me know. OR any suggestions of what to do in these areas.

I have lived here for the past 14 years, and if I had to pick a time not to be here, it would be the month prior to and the month after a national election. As far as what to do, get a guidebook. Lonely Planet isn't too bad for basic history, geography and places to see/things to do. Hotels (if they are halfway decent) will also have numerous suggestions. Other than that, I can't suggest much as I have no idea what a 23 year old Western woman would do here. In fact, I'm not sure I've ever seen one in many of the places you plan to go. This is not Thailand (and I lived there for 6 years before moving here); it is dangerous in many places - more than Thailand. I hope you are not doing this trip on your own.

Soapy. On a serious note, you should go on-line to the Australian Embassy Manila website. You can register your name, travel dates, itinerary, etc with them on-line. If something happens to you, it will make it easier for them to identify the remains. Make sure you mention any tattoos or other distinguishing marks. Have fun. Over 100f here today. Hotter in the Visayas.

Well done Soapy ... like most asian countries its better travelling if you are a bloke and not real hard to find a damsel to guide you around. Well maybe you did. Try Northern Luzon next time, theres some lovely beaches and mountain living to enjoy (try Baguio, Banaue etc)

Ive only been to the PIs once. I enjoyed Manilla even although its got a bit of edge about it. I suppose that makes it more interesting.
After Manilla i got a taxi down to Angeles after been told by loads of folk how great it was. I dont think the place had seen a lick of paint since the Yanks bailed out years ago.
    What a dump.
