we use a plastic container with a tight lid and never have had an ounce of rice go haywire since we started using it.
Before my wife had a thing that was not airtight and there would be bugs in the rice all the time and I fed a ton of it to the chickens, plus she would buy it friom her friend/cousin in the market and it have those black bugs in it when she bought it, now the rice comes in plastic bags from Tesco.

Exactly. One could almost use anything that is seable and air tight....am I missing something? What's with the specialty item to store a couple of kilos of rice?

Those weevils are a bitch, we used to spend a month in Inchon off loading then come into Frisco and go into quarantine anchorage and a crew would come aboard with the USDA man and go thru all out holds looking for bugs and chip any rust spots and then while we were on the way up river to Sacramento rice mills they were fumigating the holds, then we put on a few thousand tons of Rice until our draft went down to 38 feet then we would shift down to carquinas straights and anchor up and take on a few thousand barrels of fuel and some more rice from barges til we had 29,000 tons and 44 feet of draft, then head back to Inchon for a swinging month ashore while they unloaded again.
Best fucking job I ever had. But got to watch them fucking weevils.
