What would you pay for the same room in London?

Thats a bummer some great values in Thailand during low season. Especially if booked through hotel booking sites.

I am willing to pay between 2,000 and 4,000 baht a night, that's the range with the best value for money. Depends on location and the hotel.

Actually it is more like you said, Jandajoy. Would be willing to pay more if it is something special.

I always go for the midrange hotels but get the best possible suite/room. Works out better for me as I don't particularly like the big flash chains i.e Hilton etc.

And in smaller placer like Chiang Rai I find there's generally guest houses that'll offer everything a hotel has for a quarter of the price. They're often friendlier too.

In pattaya we usualy stay in a nice bungalow place, 4 pools etc for around 1500.

In Khao Yai we stay at a hotel for 1500.

In phuket we are staying at the marriot for free.

In Koh Hai it is 5100...but that for a 4 room seaview house by the sounds of it.

I actually do not like 5 star hotels. I rarely ever paid over 2000 for a room. But these days things seem to be a lot higher. We also have kids no, so often 2 rooms required.

I always had the opinion that why pay more than $100 for a room....what do you do in it, usually you are out most of the day and you eat out and then just sleep in the sucker. So its money pissed away for nothing.

Same goes for biz class and 1st class flights. I know people who fly biz class for 1 and 2 hour flights. What a complete waste of cash, may as well just throw it out the window. A nice seat for 2 hours....bugger me, suck in your arse cheeks and read the paper, it will be over by the time you finished it.

While I can afford it, I do not care to waste it.

I haven't paid more than 1000 baht a night for room for a very long time.
Mostly I stay in places which vary from 240 a night (Nan) to 700 a night (Rompo Mansion, BKK). Mostly I find very clean an comfy places.

You can get something acceptable in BKK for under 2000, unless maybe you are Lady Astor or my mom, but not so much under that it makes a difference, so think in terms of 2000 and you'll be OK. Try out one of the Vietnam-era RR hotels- actually, for an adventure and coming in way under the 1000 (!!) mark, try the Malaysia on soi Nam Dupli. It has a restaurant (the lively "coffee shop"), a pool, and probably a few ghosts to go along with the usual vermin. Don't leave any valuables in your room.

coz i go on holiday alone i like to move around hotels until i find somewhere with a beating heart. If you find somewhere that has some staff with personality then that can make a holiday. Its hard to put a price on accommodation i know patong was the worst value i ever found but did some moving about and found a great anglo-thai place at the end of soi post offfice (soi bprai sa nee) next to the italian restaurant Bt1000
