    Web Server In Thailand

If you have satellite, ADSL, or whatever, what are the costs of having your Web Server at home in Thailand? For a good connection in the USA, it's about double the cost for business (own web server), as compared to home use? There are many things available if your server is 'root' accessible, so other hosting is not my interest.

I assume you mean setting up your own pc as the server so others can access it, satelite here goes off line as soon as it gets a bit cloudy or rains, my ADSL I have to reboot several times perday just to get a workable connection

^ Hmmmm DD, my sat seldom goes off even in the darkest of Thunder storms, in fact it is more stable than my UBC sat... go figure.

I think folks sometimes get confused, and it leads to the idea that 'inet sat. sucks. If your connected during the approach of a storm it seems to hold pretty good, speed is reduced but I've not lost a connection.

The biggest problem I see is that TOT's HTTP or DNS, or whatever they are, servers are way under spec'd. I get lots and lots of "looking up......" while my uTorrents click right along, indicating my connection is good its the TOT servers that are flocked.

Surely you don't intend to run a web-server, or any web based applications, as root? Once the machine is setup what would you need root access for?

Hosting a webserver here, even with "professional hosting," is a crap shoot. international pipeline is small and unreliable. A home based server? Thailand professional quality net connections (bit of an oxymoron that one) are quite high. The bozos running the net think nothing of taking it down and fiddling with it.

I host all my sites in the US. ~ I develop on my own box. I have never required root access for my local server other than initial setup.

Looks like TOT wants 29K for a 4Mb/512Kb connection. hosting a site with only 512 Kb bandwidth? a 1Mb/512Kb line with 4 IP addresses is listed at 8500 per. Probably be cheaper to go for a dedicated server package. I've seen them as low as 70 bucks with full root access. Not sure of the quality tho.
