    burma travel advice reqd

    morning,

just thinking of doing a few days in burma, i have just read some interesting posts about the place, i have never been before so could do with a few not to miss bits, i personally would like to visit the new capital nappyi whatever its called althogh it looks a bit quite if at all possible.

i would like to go north and work south or vice versa, and get in the most out of say 4/5 days which is near impossible but with some sound advice i may get some good stuff in.

so any tips, must sees' helpful tour agents, hotels/guesthouse names in good locations etc etc.

also i see that they are supposed to be offering visas online now its march, i can only see companys offering these at 75 dollars not the official site, if anyone can help on that also??

    many thanks

    chris
please dont post anything on here and make this thread like thai visa.com, if its helpful its good, if it's not, it aint helpfull so dont waste either of our times.

too far, no point, dont know if it's allowed.

North to South in 5 days ?

try visiting, Rangoon, Mandalay, Bagan and would be about it in that time frame.

    Bring cash.

traveling on the cheap ( bus/trains) is time consuming so 4-5 days. stay in Rangoon and possible take the train up to Mandalay an then fly back
    YOu can always go Back

The most important thing you have to do is get ultra mint US dollars. no crease. not even a slight crease. No folded corners, not pin pricked sized holes or other scuff marks on the notes. Keep them flat. Buy a dairy thats hard covered and pocket sized and keep your notes in order like that.

    Even the 1 dollar bills.

The main interesting places and must to see are: Yangon, Bagan, Mandalay, InleLake. I would put Nappyi not too high on the list. 4-5 days is quite short because there is also some traveling involved.

Also EVisa costs moeny so to do this with the agent will be same.

I would recommend to try to plan you trip via a local travel agent, they know what they doing and they also can do all the domesic flights, which will be for you to book in adanced direct much more difficult. Also regarding the hotels. Depending when you like to go. At the moment most of the hotels are fully booked and even agents have problems to find rooms for just a few nights. Agents can do also the visa.

A very good agent I can recomment is Shan Yoma Travel & Tours

Have a great trip I love the country and hope you will get the same impression

cheers Ratchaburi very good thread thanks

Sir Wilson thanks for that although looking at the map you would travel past it on your travels and it is somewhere i would like to see although my mate would prob want to ring my neck for taking him/them.

Phuketrichard not travling on the cheap but not throwing it away either, have looked at then trains on website route/seat 61 and they look fine, and also the boat from mandalay to bagan, then maybe a train to nappy???

WujouMao thanks for that, thais can be picky so ill be on my guard more now cheers.

honeybanny InleLake i had to wiki it as never heard of it but looks nice enogh, Shan Yoma Travel & Toursi just checked online and they seem fine, cheers for those.

looking at the maps data on internet i dont want to travel backwards so id like to enter say rangoon, then travel north or (vice versa) flying to rangoon no probs but the nearest airport i can see to the nothest point i want go is
    Nyaung U Airport

which is still qiute far from mandaly, so i would pass the airport as it looks like its near bagan???

ill have to do more work on this when my mates arrive in next 2 days, they want a change to thailand /cambodia etc for a few days i on the other hand want to do same but with a quick view of asking questions looking for a nice upcomming busy spot to open a guest house, with a view to returning and do more research after they gone back home.

thanks for everyones input/time has been very help full.

oh just a quickie if anyone knows the trains/ boats etc are they smoker friendly as thailand or is it a stricker regime??

    chris

I would make your plans well in advance, i have just tried to get a hotel in Rangoon, it would seem half the world wants to visit at the moment. Park Royal only have rooms at $240 per night and The Strand $300 per night. There is also a risk that hotels will not honour bookings through websites other than their own.
I stayed in Rangoon just 8 months ago with a choice of hotels around the $50 per night.
    Worth making the effort though.
