    Cool Been to Cuba?

A friend of mine took his family to Cuba a few months ago.

He said it was one of the best holiday destinations that he has been.

Very affordable...nice places to stay, beautiful beaches, with cheap rum, cheap food and cheap accommodation.

Lots to see and do, plus a plenty of good looking woman to perve at....

So who's been and what is it like?

I haven't, but I know someone who lives there who also says it's a great place to visit. I've had the invitation to go and stay with him, in a villa with a beach view somewhere, but not taken him up on it yet....I may just do so soon, so interested in the responses here too.

one of the things on my bucket list:

a trip to cuba with my flyrod in my luggage.

i believe the tarpon fishing is great, and the women too, although moustaches on women aren't normally my thing..

I had a wonderful family holiday there a few years back. Great people, beautiful country.
Food was mainly poor apart from the seafood.
Stayed in St Lucia and travelled around a lot including a 3 day trip to the mountains.
Spent sometime in Trinadad, its like walking around in a musical, cobbled streets made from the ballast of 18th century galleons, upturned bronze canons on the corner of the streets to stop the carriages from clipping the buildings. The music in all the bars and restaurants is amazing, its the home of The Buena Vista Social Club after all !
    Go there, its great.

I went to Cuba on holiday with a friend of mine eight years ago. We flew from Manchester to Varadero. We stayed in Varadero in a hotel right next to the Golf Course. The flight was shite to long and the service was crap HAPAG-LLOYD was the carrier not impressed.

The holiday itself was absolutely terrific, the people in Cuba are the jewel in the crown plus the street entertainment was magic. All -inclusive it was a great deal one of the thing that I couldn,t get my head round was that one of the barmaids in the evening in the hotel we were in was the hotel doctor for any tourists that got sick. She told me that she earned approximately $25.00 per month and that she was well paid.

Recommendations I would go back in a heart beat, although places are never the same second time round. If you think Brazilian women are sexy try the Cuban model and the Cubans can dance.

I come from a Country that still tells me I cannot go there. If Cuban Immigration were smart, they would start stamping visa on arrivals for Americans on sticky notes that can be removed from your passport after you leave to prevent any hassle with Homeland Security when they return to the USA. I understand when some of the Arab countries started denying entry to people who had Israeli visas in their passports, the Israelis started using sticky notes.

Nice way to get the last laugh on your enemies.

Went to Cuba fifteen years ago, had a really great holiday. Hotels were basic, food was terrible, but the beaches were superb, the Cuban people are great, the music and their dancing must be seen to be believed. We also did the mountain/rain forest trip for 3 days, unbelievable, like stepping back in time. Highlight of the holiday was swimming in the sea with dolphins - a magical experience. At the end of the holiday we swapped an old pair of Nike trainers for a box of Cohiba cigars and an old pair of 501's for a box of Romeo & Julieta's!!! Would like to go back and see how the country has changed, hopefully for the better.

Watch out if buying cigars. All of the ones you'll be offered by 'someone who has a brother who works in a cigar factory' *will* be fake. Buy only at the authorized stores and make sure you get the official Habanos receipt, or customs will take them away when you leave.

I have an american friend who goes all the time to teach; they just let US citizens through - no need for a stamp

He has to fly to and from Mexico to get in and out though and discard any evidence of being in Cuba before returning to the states.

Cubans are more than happy to have you lot in; you carry greenbacks

Was there 12 yrs. ago. Enjoyed the trip, Havana is a world heritage site ( building were great, old cars kept running ( trade embargo by US for the last 30 years?), people very nice ( Cuban citizens are all colours ). People very poor but have good schools and medical care. They love baseball and sports fields, etc are top notch and supplied by government. Personal freedom is restricted.
