    Thailand Art and Culture Forum

Can we have a forum/subforum specifically for Thai Art and Culture? I'm thinking about something that sets an earliest time limit of 1900 and deals with subjects like art, music, dance, literature, poetry, movies, magazines, mainstream, underground, fringe and so on. It's a big subject area and isn't really all that well known to many of us foreigners.

I know that we already have an Arts and Entertainment forum but as this is a Thailand-focussed forum it might be nice to have an area for specifically Thailand-based art.

Something a little different from the Temples, Ban Ki Kwai festivities, 18th Century re-enactments, female fire-hazards, and paintings of the Buddha looking depressed that are the TAT and Ministry of Culture approved versions of Thai Art and Culture.
The Above Post May Contain Strong Language, Flashing Lights, or Violent Scenes.

None, feel free to post stuff from the 30th century if you want. Thailand will be Buck Roger's personal pleasure garden by that time anyway.

Yeah, 1900 to present. Basically I was thinking modern times and chose the 1900 start date as being around the time of the very earliest Thai movies and modern-style literature. 1920 might be better but there was some, not much, stuff before that.

I'd be more interested in pre 1900, modern crap you can see at any new Thai tourist restaurant, probably better not to set a year limit.

You seen this on a tourist website?

1927, first Hollywood movie ever filmed in Thailand. All-thai cast, no professionals, just local farmers. Mostly improvised.

Kru is a pioneer, living deeper in the jungle of northern Siam than any of his predecessors. He solves the problems caused by leopards and tigers attacking his stock by setting traps and killing those beasts. A baby chang (the Siamese word for elephant) is caught in his trap, and thinking he would tame it so it will work for him one day, he tethers it to a post under his house, which is on stilts. Its mother comes and destroys his house. Kru and his family flee to the village, where a mammoth herd of elephants suddenly appear and decimates the buildings in the village. But the villagers fight back.
Vicious Elephants attack Humans in Tusker Kill Frenzy!
Sounds like a winner to me

Might as well forget time limits, people won't pay attention to that and anyway I've got some nice pics of stuff from the stone age.

The forum for the discussion and appreciation of Thai Art, Literature, Music, Moving Images, Dance, Poetry, and all other forms of Thai Arts and Culture. What are the foundations of Thai culture? What are the greatest Thai novels and works of literature? Was that music video really about a man who was raised by chickens? Does it really matter? This forum is for everybody with an interest in what it is that really makes up art and culture in Thailand.

I added a bit about a guy brought up by chickens (the birds, not the Japanese perverts). Does that help?

Ok initially it will have to be a sub forum, sub forum of temples, or festivals, or do you have a better idea?

There will be sexual undertones though, won't there?

    Overtones would be bad.

Porn basically, you know it does you good.

What about a sub forum of "Arts and Entertainment" or "Living in Thailand"?

naaa, not with the other arts forum, in the near future the forum index will be split into 2 so we need the Thai stuff together.
Living in thailand might be ok although I still prefer my suggestions.
