    Classical Thai Musical Instruments

Thai Musical Instruments and lets start with the drum, these 2 drums were at Wat Paknam, my son plays quite a few of the old classical instruments, or used to in his younger days, now his interests tend to be in women and women, kids today, you can't starve them to death.

Anyway a couple of nice old traditional drums, probably made out of teak wood, regardless it has a nice graining to it, probably too nice to actually risk damaging them by playing them, but thats like owning a top end sports car in the UK and only using it on days it doesn't rain.

My sons mini drum is based on a coconut, not quite in league with these beautiful drums.

Thailand having these OTOP villages even has a few drum making villages where you can get a custom drum built or just buy a ready made one.

OTOP = One Tambon One Product

In between Kanchanaburi and Suphanburi is a Drum Making Village (Drum making Village/Kanchanaburi/SuphanBuri), would this drum be large enough Sir?

Also in Ang Thong drums like this are made and sold.

The Khene is a Lao musical instrument I believe, but you see many here in Thailand being used by the beggars, taking a wild guess I would say both countries would claim it was theirs, it is similar to a mouth organ but made of bamboo.

So what other Thai Classical Musical Instruments are there?

My kids play this thing very well. They have learned 8 years twice a week from an Air Force band tutor. They are good.

My son has one of them, a bit bigger than that, he has played it for performances with his band he was in in his younger days, used to have lessons during the weekends, think it was with the school music teacher, also played in the school band at some real big do's in Pattaya, even used to get paid, not a lot but it's still money

    Classical Thai Band

This was taken in Bangkok at one of the floating markets, bamboo flute type instruments, also note the man on the phone and his boat style musical instrument.

White t shirt with his banjo type thing, got some great old style instruments has this band, sadly kids today want loud noisy electric guitars and big drum sets.

Nearly forgot the Khene, made out of differing lengths of bamboo making this an easily affordable instrument, been around for years, mainly used by blind beggars as they tour the markets looking for offerings, both Thailand and Lao lay claim to inventing this mouth organ type instrument, me, my money is on they copied it from one of john Waynes cowboy films
