BBC - This World, reports on the lack of justice after the violence in BKK last year

BBC - BBC Two Programmes - This World

Can be watched here on BBC iPlayer.

Yingluck was interviewed and says she will risk being ousted to bring the military to justice over the deaths during last years riots.

Abisit was also interviewed, along with several academics, who risk their well being by speaking out against the elite, so to speak.

Apparently Taksin declined to be interviewed.

Quite a daring piece of reporting, given Thailand's habit of papering over the cracks so the elite avoid justice.

There are some scenes of blood and gore, not nice at all.

    Well worth watching.

I hope it covers the delay in bringing the (alleged) red terrorists to trial?

It would be interesting to compare how swiftly the thugs who went on the rampage in London are dealt with by the courts there (and their sentences).

Of course the whole justice system here could do with a shakeup to try and deal with the ridiculously long time that *all* remand prisoners have to wait for their trials (and the length of the trials themselves)

No, but the show did go on about how the military have never been brought to account for the atrocities it has done over the years and how they always get away with murder.

The show also claimed (via anonymous interviews with DSI investigators) that the DSI chief ordered that any case which is difficult to prove who shot who that the blame would be place totally on the black shirts.

^ Ah. Not balanced and impartial reporting then. Shame, I thought the BBC was mostly getting better now-a-days.

No the focus of the show was to find the truth.

What injustice has happened? I was in Los Angeles during the Rodney King riots, which were suppressed much more quickly and violently than the Bangkok protests (riots) were. You riot, burn and loot and you get shot, the only thing the Thai Government did was wait too long to do it.

Well, for the military and their buddies in the DSI - that party is over.

If this show was shown in Thailand does anyone think it would go down well or just be a ''falang criticise my country'' attitude?

I know it wouldn't ever be shown but just wondering.

I watched it last night and found it very informative.
With the restrictions of law and fear removed, the programme put things clearly into perspective.

^&^^No, but it did give a fairly impartial, good chronology of what went down in one (very) concise programme-which hasnt been done before.

Not everyone followed the minutae of events as they unfolded on internet forums, and this documentary would have been an eye opening one for many regular or potential visitors to Thailand. I followed events fairly closely but still found it worth watching and it is a good piece of documentary footage collated together for reference.

This saga is not yet complete, more events are yet unfold to change Thailand irrevocably. I think Thailand will be a whole different animal 10 or even 5 years from now. Maybe for the better of locals and/or "guests", maybe not, who knows...but change is most definitely afoot and the end result will be a "different" Thailand to the one we know and love/hate.

Just enjoy it while it lasts.

Yet more factual evidence to broadcast to the international democratic communities of the heanous murdress crimes of the amart junta and proxy abisit.

I do hope the new judiciary put in place as a result of the countries newly restored democracy , and rejection of the PAD yellow amart clowns, have also seen this programme and can now sentance the oppressors junta.

It made an interesting point at the end. With Yingluck now in power there is the possibility to pursue the army for the deaths in Bangkok, as I think she has expressed already, but that is obviously a dangerous path to tread. Thaksin is still in exile and no doubt wishes to return, but still faces charges.

Will there be a trade off?
Immunity for the army in return for immunity for Thaksin?
    It is quite a conundrum.
If there is such a deal, the voters and the protestors will feel they have been sold out.
Life should not be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside in a cloud of smoke, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming "Wow! What a Ride!"
