    Tuk-tuk driver stabs Welshman

PATONG: A Welsh tourist is expected to be discharged from Phuket International Hospital today after being stabbed in the chest following a dispute over a tuk-tuk fare early yesterday morning.

Kathu Deputy Inspector for Crime Suppression, Pol Capt Leucha Polkarn, confirmed that Julien Bennett, 31, was stabbed on Nanai Rd about 3:30 am, following an altercation with Patong tuk-tuk driver Wisut Jampa, 40.

The stabbing occurred in front of the Royal Crown Hotel, where Bennett was staying.

Wisut stabbed the victim, then fled in his tuk-tuk, Capt Leucha confirmed. Police later arrested him near his vehicle, parked in a queue at one end of Soi Bangla.

During questioning by police, Wisut said that he had negotiated a fare of 200 baht to take Bennett back to his hotel. Upon arriving there, Bennett, who Wisut said was drunk, began arguing about the fare, saying the normal rate was 100 baht.

Bennett then took out 120 baht and threw it in his face, then began throwing punches at him, the tuk-tuk driver told police.

Unable to fight back, Wisut went to the glove compartment of the tuk-tuk and grabbed a folding knife, which he used to stab Bennett. As Bennett ran to the hotel to seek assistance, Wisut fled the scene.

Wisut now faces criminal charges for the stabbing, Capt Leucha said.

The tuk-tuk cnuts are really becoming more troublesome.
Not only are they rip off artist but they act like the own beach road.
This kind of incident just signals their demise I hope.
Normally the minimum charge is 100 baht. Lately they are attempting to gouge each passenger for 100 baht,
There are way too many of them and they choke the thoroughfares.
They are organized and have been known to block streets an beat up bus drivers who are competition.
The days of these arseholes are numbered I think.

What we need is a Pattaya equivalent to the songtaew

actually no, they are the equivalents of tuk-tuk mafias you have in patong and will beat you up for failing to pay 50 baht instead of 5 baht

I seem to remember paying 10 baht fare for the fare between Jomtien and 2nd beach rd. Was I paying too much?( I never did get the songtaew thing figured out there!)
Late at night I seem to recall paying 100 baht for the on call service from walking street to Jomtien which still seems like a deal compared to the tuktuk ripoffs that transpire here in Patong.
But I guess there are cnuts everywhere!

I might be wrong since it's been a couple of years since I was hanging out a bit in Jomtien.
It was either 10 or 15 baht. I can't remember now
I always carried the correct change as I learned early on that you never get change back from taxi drivers in bkk.

DD what do you usually pay from Jomtien to beach rd?

The price is 10baht, last time I caught a baht bus though was about 8 years ago, I would rather walk than even having to bother to deal with those lieing thieving scumbags, I saw my mate attacked by one of these scumbags, we were living in the same place, 50 baht journey, the scumbag driver decided he wanted 100baht, my mate had been here a year or 2 and knew the prices so give him 50baht, the taxi scumbag driver followed him up the road to my place, which was about 100 meters from where his baht bus was parked, just outside my place he started attacking my mate with a big piece of wood he had taken from his baht bus, yep the thieving scumbag baht bus driver run up behind my mate and tried to club him from behind, and yes I did see this as I was at the back security grill at the time but my keys were up on the third floor, I shouted at my mate as the cnut run up to him so he turned and blocked it, must have foking hurt his arm though, lucky he was as hard as fok and an ex vietnam crazy foker vet, shame he didnt shove that lump of wood where the sun don't shine, that would have been one less of these theiving cnuts.
