Suphan Buri : Thailandīs happiest people

ABAC Poll: Thailandīs happiest people live in Suphan Buri
    Sarun Saelee

BANGKOK, 21 March 2011 (NNT) – Suphan Buri is found to be the province that people feel the happiest to live in while the paradise island of Phuket ends the chart, according to a recent survey by the Assumption University Research Center (ABAC Poll).

The poll’s Academic Network for Community Happiness Observation and Research (ANCHOR) conducted the survey with residents in all 77 provinces across the country from February to March 2011. They were asked which province they felt the most happy to live in.

The central province of Suphan Buri has the highest score of 7.83 points out of the full score of 10, followed by the central province of Uttaradit, the southern province of Phang-Nga, the central provinces of Sukhothai and Phetchabun with 7.66, 7.56, 7.50 and 7.44 points respectively.

The sixth to the tenth on the chart are the southern province of Satun, the northeastern province of Buri Ram, the central province of Phitsanulok, the eastern province of Sa Kaeo and the northern province of Phayao.

The last five provinces on the chart are Samut Songkhram, Krabi, Saraburi, Songkhla and Phuket with the score of 6.45, 6.41, 6.40, 6.32 and 5.64 points respectively.

Well, I don't know 'bout all them guys but do know we have the happiest former PM as a native son: Banharn Silpa-Racha AKA the 'Snake' but he's just all right with the folks here. This is one of the best changwats in terms of roads, lighting, infrstructure etc and people are happy here as opposed to other changwats I've visited in LOS.

Imagine that. The so-called 'paradise' of Phuket / Krabi is at the bottom of the list.

With the roads as good as they are here it's a piece of piss to get down to the 'big city' in under two hours. I can be at Suk Soi 49 (visiting a friend in the hospital) in two hours.

I have no requirement to describe the germiverse that Banharn volitionally habited and personified as in any way indicative of the real Thailand, whilst yet describing him as the smartest of that bunch.

He has been a very good MP for his constituents, for sure.

Banharn follows the rules of Gin Muang (eat the country) by letting some of his ill-gotten gains trickle down the food chain. Thaksin didn't, so the middle class of Thailand rejected him.

Learned today talking to some Thais (middle-class shop owners) another reason why Suphanburi might be at the top of the 'happy' list: No factories in this province. Banharn has not and will not allow some stinking, smoke-belching factories here.

Listening to the radio this morning they were playing some old-time Thai music. The wife then mentioned that >80% of famous Thai singers come from Suphan Buri.

Makes sense I guess as when you are the happiest changwat in Thailand, you like to sing!

^ I just asked Mys sabang about that, and she said maybe not 80%, but near enough.
Isaan is famous for it's comedians. I guess when you're the funniest place in Thailand, you like to laugh.
