    Thailand : Bribe police demoted

    Bribe police demoted
    23/01/2011

One senior policeman and two non-commissioned police officers have been transferred after facing allegations of taking bribes.

Central Investigation Bureau commissioner Pongpat Chayapan said the bureau, police inspectors and local police conducted a covert investigation of police officers suspected of being involved in corruption.

The investigation extended to high-ranking officers.

Pol Lt Gen Pongpat said the CIB found three police under its jurisdiction may have been involved in bribe-taking. They are Surachate Hakpal, head of the Anti-Human Trafficking Division 3; and Pol Snr Sgt Maj Srisuwan Wongkhiri and Pol Snr Sgt Maj Sathaporn Srilairum, both of the AHTD.

Details of their suspected wrongdoing were not disclosed.

Pol Col Surachate has been transferred to an inactive post at the Marine Police Division and the other two officers to the Tourism Police Division pending the investigation by the police's Counter Corruption Division.

Surachat, you go fishing for a while till all this blows over, right? As for you other ranks, well ......... Please talk it over with the complainant and see if it can be resolved in the "Thai way".

Ye Gods the entire police force will be pounding the streets at this rate.

Perhaps if all the corrupt police are demoted their positions can be filled by politicians who lose this year's elections. That way we know there won't be any more corruption.......

Temporary setback. They will just have to pay bigger bribes themselves to get back in favour.
