Her name is na Ayuthaya. That doesn't mean she's from Ayuthaya, it means she's related to the Royal family. That, I would guess, is the reason it's being reported on Rachaprasong News.
Very very very distantly related with that name...like Rama I related....

I've met many people with that name and they weren't hiso at all.
Not necessarily very, very, distant. Over four generations from the child of a King. Many close relatives have that name. The sequence is Phra Ong Chao, Mom Chao, Mom Rajawong, Mom Luang, Na Whatever (Na Ayuthaya is specifically the Ratanokosin Dynasty). If her father is a Mom Luang that makes him a cousin of Royalty.

Apparently the girl cannot be charged as she was only 16 with no licence as too young.

Here's my basic analysis of the CCTV, please correct me if i am wrong

    • Looking at the damage of the van, it must have been doing quite some speed when it crashed, so its reasonable. Given that and the reputation of van drivers to assume that they were banging a long at the max speed limit of 120km/h
    • between the first and second frames, the honda covers twice the distance of the van

To me this would suggest that she was driving at over 200km/h and overtaking a mini van on the inside; both actions of a dangerous mindless fool.

Parents who would provide their under age child with a car like this and allow them to run wild, clearly know that they are bullet proof. Just like the family of the young man with a passion for using his merc to kill people waiting for busses; they will expect their daughter to be held fully unaccounatble for her actions.

Personally I found the photo of her unharmed texting on her phone rather disappointing, I was hoping that she might have some rather unpleasant permanent reminder of her handywork. As this is the only consequence she will ever face.

I used to have the 2 litre honda like that and it would not pull 185 let alone over 200.

^True that...no way she was doing anywhere near 200. Truth is we don't know how fast either car was traveling.

Or maybe she was just overwhelmed by it all..

I know that at 16, if I'd just caused the death of 8 people, I'd be shell-shocked.

    She's 16.

Yes and she certainly doesn't appear to be unduly perturbed after her "accident" quite the opposite in fact, very relaxed. Probably quite pleased with her luck that she's come out of it virtually without a scratch.

Whether she was texting or looking for a contact number is open to debate but "undertaking" other drivers here at speed especially on the elevated tolls is par for course and she may have been finishing the text she started while she was driving, who knows? but that wouldn't surprise me either.

I'm hardly surprised the vans doors popped open after looking at the damage to the the van and the front of the Honda and I have no doubt that seatbelts could have helped but afterall TIT.

Still never mind I'm sure she'll get over this minor mishap especially when she gets her new car after mummy and daddy have paid to settle matters amicably!

I have driven unmodified, old, carburettored, 1.8l cars at over 200km/hr, unless honda civics are exceptionally crap I would expect them to go faster than this.

To quote a honda enthusiast website

"The top speed of 2009-2010 Honda Civic Si is governed at 137MPH. If you take out the limiter you can easily break 145....depending upon conditions (such as weather, track...etc) http://www.streetfire.net/video/Top-speed-run-06-Civic-SI_29751.htm"

Outch. sounds as well connected as chaleam's son and on that bases its probably a good idea for the witnesses to get themselves a lot of life insurance.

PM makes road safety govt priority

Traffic laws scrutinised in wake of van tragedy
    • Published: 29/12/2010 at 12:00 AM
    • Newspaper section: News

The government is vowing to enforce tough road safety measures following Monday's fatal passenger van accident on the Don Muang elevated tollway.

Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva said yesterday the government was considering enforcing additional legal measures in its efforts to improve road safety.

Authorities have been asked to study traffic-related laws which regulate the speed and condition of public transport vehicles and to see if more action could be taken to make the country's roads safer.

Mr Abhisit said road safety was among the cabinet's top priorities with the New Year celebrations approaching, especially following the latest crash involving a passenger van on Monday night.

"The cabinet has also asked parties concerned to study the enforcement of using GPS technology in all public transport vehicles, and even in passenger vehicles, to help prevent accidents," he said.

Eight people died in the crash on Monday night near the Bang Khen exit of the tollway. They are Pinyo Jinantuya, 34, assistant dean for architecture at Thammasat University; Sudawadee Nilawan, 20, and Pratchaya Kanta, 21, students at Thammasat; Sastra Chaothiang, 33, researcher at the National Science and Technology Development Agency; Ukrit Ratanachomsri, 30, researcher at Biotec; Naruemon Pitatanang, 38, the van driver; Trong Sudtonkij, 24; and Kiatiman Rodaree,23.

Sixteen-year-old Orachon Thephasadin Na Ayudhya was seriously injured.

Another woman, who has not been identified, remains in a coma with brain damage and multiple broken bones.

The cause of the accident is being investigated. Pol Lt Col Chatchai Aiem-ong, superintendent at Vibhavadi police station, said footage from a camera on the tollway showed a car swerving just before it collided with a passenger van, which was travelling from Thammasat University Rangsit Campus. The impact pushed the van into the tollway barrier.

The van door was torn off and eight of the passengers were thrown out of the vehicle and over the barrier to the ground below.

Police should conclude their inquiries in coming days, he said.

Thammasat University rector Somkid Lertpaitoon said the accident was a great loss to the university, with one lecturer and two students dead. He called on the government to accelerate the construction of the Red Line electric train network, which will run from Thammasat University's Rangsit Campus to several Bangkok destinations and connect with existing public transport services. It is scheduled to open in 2014.

Mr Somkid also asked the government to enforce tougher measures to ensure the safety of passenger vans.

The call was supported by the family of one of the accident victims.

Naruemon Nilawan, 57, aunt of Thammasat law student Sudawadee, who died in the crash, said she wanted to see the strict enforcement of safety measures.

"Is it possible to make every passenger wear safety belts?" Ms Naruemon asked as she turned up at Police General Hospital to recover Sudawadee's body.

"Authorities should take it seriously now. Don't just talk about it when things like this happen."

Ms Naruemon said the accident was a great loss because the victims could have made a contribution to society.

Sombat Wongkamhaeng, spokesman for the Lawyers Council of Thailand, called on police to investigate the accident and determine who should be held responsible.

He said the families of the victims might consider taking out criminal and civil lawsuits against the driver of the car if evidence suggested fault lay there.

Deputy government spokesman Marut Masayawanich said about 50,000 vocational students would be sent to checkpoints and car maintenance spots across the country to provide vehicle inspection services over the New Year break.

A total of 875 hospitals would deploy emergency response teams around the clock over the seven-day holiday, he said.

Deputy Prime Minister Suthep Thaugsuban yesterday urged motorists to heed His Majesty the King's advice on the need for vigilance to prevent accidents.

The government has also launched a campaign to reduce road fatalities over the New Year holiday.

Mr Suthep, who chairs the disaster mitigation and prevention committee, said authorities were taking steps to improve road safety but they needed the cooperation of motorists.

"We need to take care not only of ourselves but others too," he said.

    Road accident centre opened
    • Published: 29/12/2010 at 11:51 AM
    • Online news:

The road accident prevention and reduction centre of the Interior Ministry has been opened to curb the road accident that leaves a large number of people killed during the New Year festivities of every year.

Deputy Prime Minister Suthep Thaugsuban said after chairing the centre’s opening activity on Wednesday morning that the centre is established to oversee road accident prevention measures.

The centre will also be responsible for collecting information and data on road accident for analyzing for improving the existing measures and settling road accident problem in each province said Mr Suthep, director of the centre.

Wibul Sanguanpong, director of the Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Department and the centre’s secretary-general, said his centre has set a target to reduce number of road accidents, injuries and fatalities during Dec 29 to Jan 4 by at least five percent from those of last year.

Mr Wibul said the centre had ordered the setting up of joint operation center for road accident prevention in each province across the country to ensure effectiveness of the road accident prevention measures.

Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva had said on Tuesday that the government was considering enforcing additional legal measures in its efforts to improved road safety.
