LATEST NEWSHi-Low Gambling arrest in Jomtien.
Thursday 9th November 2006
A gambling arrest now from the Dongtan Police Sub-Station on Jomtien Beach. Police Lieutenant Colonel Santi received some information from a Police informant who suggested that an illegal Gambling event was taking place in a room opposite the Whitehouse Resort on Jomtien Beach. A team of officers converged on the location and arrested 12 people, 3 men and 9 women who were caught playing the popular dice game known as “Hi-Low” for money which is illegal here in Thailand. The group along with evidence of the gambling including 1,640 Baht in cash was taken back to the Police Station where they were charged accordingly. For those that are unaware of the Gambling Laws here in Thailand, we must remind you that any form of gambling is illegal and, if caught, you will be arrested and possibly imprisoned or even deported if found guilty in court.

No I really dont think it was more than that. I have been to these places, small gambling rooms where there is a couple groups of people playing the same or different games, usually for 5 baht a hand or so. Not really something for the police to be concerned about considering what else is going on in the city around them, but its much easier than finding rapist or murderers, so they go for it.
