Don't get me wrong I love tuk tuk's but if it was based on the above surely it should be nowhere near the top.

Fails miserably on cleanliness, service charge, driving quality and safety!!

but good fun and used to enjoy many a tuk tuk race with mates in Bangkok, one tuk tuk each, select a destination, bet 500 baht each and offer the winning driver an extra 100 baht and fuck me they go like fuck!!

^ agreed. In this climate, why would you get a scumbag t-t, and be overcharged in the sweltering heat and fumes when you can go with a meter in a nice aircon environment...

Tuk Tuks are a combination of the worst parts of regular taxis (getting stuck in traffic) combined with the worst part of motorcycle taxis (no airconditioning).

Tuk-tuks play an important role in local Bangkok life. A trip to any local market will show you this.

For tourists they are just a bit of fun. I still enjoy jumping in a tuk-tuk at night on occasion, though I won't be paying tourist prices.

As far as regular Bangkok taxis are concerned, I find most drivers to be pretty good, the cars clean and outstanding value for money.

We used to do the same only 5 of us on motorbike taxis, dead arms on the overtake. Surprised nobody died.

^If I was taking a motorcycle taxi then I would prefer to pay them more to drive carefully and slower. You must be stupid.

It was stupid, dangerous, immature, irresponsible and fun.

You wouldn't catch me doing that now, but I still use the motorbike taxis for traffic purposes.
