Belgium national jumps to his death from Center Condo.
This case comes from the Center Condo Complex located just off the South Pattaya Road next to the Chaimongkon Temple. Police Major Pongsak from Pattaya Police Station was sent to the location at 10.30pm on Tuesday Night after security staff at the complex reported the apparent suicide of a Belgium National. At the scene Police inspected the body of Mr. Frans Vilenick aged 39. It was clear that Mr. Vilenick had fallen from a high floor because of the state of the body. The incident happened at the rear of the complex and Police determined that the man lived in a 6th Floor condo for 10 years. His girlfriend, Khun Saowalak aged 39 mentioned that he was due to return to Belgium in the early hours of Wednesday Morning and a taxi had been booked to collect him from the complex at 10pm. 30 Minutes before the suicide he had been drinking with friends at a bar located in the complex and had mentioned that he must return to Belgium where he previously worked as a Fishermen because he had run out of money and could not continue to support himself here in Thailand. Police believe that moments after leaving the Bar he made his way to the 16th floor of the Complex and jumped to his death. Inside his trouser pocket was a suicide note which read:
“Dear Nok and My Family and Friends, I am very sorry but I have to leave you behind. After 10 years in Thailand, I don’t have the spirit anymore to go back. Sorry to disappoint you. Signed Frans.
PS. Mother. Please for Nok pay for the cremation and give her some money because I’m leaving her behind with nothing.”
The Belgium Embassy in Bangkok has been informed of the case.

That may be so, but I know for a fact that when I stayed there 8 years ago, there were several crimes (as in killings) of foreigners that were never reported in the local papers. Keep in mind that the Singapore authorities will tell you exactly what they want you to know, and nothing more. Dead gweilos are bad for business and tourism, so it never happens.....

Briton found dead in Chiang Mai karaoke bar

Chiang Mai - A British tourist was found dead inside a karaoke bar in this northern city Tuesday afternoon, police said.

Police said the Briton, who appeared in his 45 years old and was identified by his credit card as RJ Simpson, was found lying dead on a sofa in front of the toilet rooms of the Namiki Karaoke bar in Muang district at 5:30 pm.

Pol Lt Col Charnwit Taeprachit of the Muang district police station quoted employees of the bar as saying the man arrived in a tuktuk before the bar was open for business and asked to use a toilet room.

The man was later found dead on the sofa with no traces of external injuries.

His body was sent for an autopsy at the Central Memorial Hospital.

i thought the first policeman on the scene would have taken his credit card, and identified him by his Blockbuster video card instead.

i guess next time i am in thailand i will have to carry something identifying myself as slimboyfat - just in case i am killed or feel like committing suicide.

English man discovered dead inside his Naklua Condominium.
Police Major Khunawoot from Banglamung Police Station was called to the Park Beach Condominium located in Soi 16 off the Naklua Road by staff at the complex who reported the passing of a foreign national. Police made their way to room number 592/424 on the 30th Floor of the complex and inspected the body of Mr. Richard James Haythornthwaite aged 75 from Blackpool in England. He was found inside the bathroom lying face-down on the floor. A routine inspection of the room and body was made by Police and nothing suspicious could be found. The initial discovery was made by a friend of the deceased, Khun Duangtar aged 22. She mentioned that Mr. Haythornthwaite was in poor health and he would also drink excess amounts of alcohol on a daily basis. Police have informed the British Embassy in Bangkok who have already been in contact with his family. The body will be sent to Bangkok for a post mortem examination before being released to the Embassy for transportation back to the UK.

The Foreign Ministry may want to do a reality check back home, Thais may actually flee to France afterwards... Send them a kink to this thread. :rolleyes:

Thais warned to avoid or cancelling trip to France

Foreign Ministry has cautioned Thai citizens to consider postponing or cancelling travelling to France particularly this period because of the threat of crime.

The ministry issued the warning in a statement on Tuesday which said that several robberies or thefts had occurred involving cars belonging to the Thai Embassy in Paris.
"In the past month, at least four robberies occurred to embassy cars and we would like to warn Thais who plan to travel to France to increase their safety measures or consider postponing or canceling travel to France in the summer which would be crowded with tourists and possibly criminals," read the statement.
A thief broke the window of an embassy car in which the Thai commercial attache was traveling when it had stopped at the intersection of a busy road. The diplomat was slightly injured when he resisted the thief, who attempted to snatch his bag, it added. The thief is still at large.
Last month, a thief broke an embassy vehicle's window while it was stopping at a crowded road. A group of visiting high-ranking Thai officials were on the vehicle.
The statement warned Thais traveling to France to take special care of their property, including not putting valuables near car windows and not wearing jewelry.
The ministry has earlier suggested that Thais avoid traveling alone, stay clear of isolated places and pay particular attention to passing motorbikes - the vehicle of choice for French thieves.

I can't find anything older, this one was started by DD 2 days after he registered his DD nick so I figured earlier ones were probably test threads or something like that that have since gone away.

Still, it will be fun if somebody can unearth the original "1-test-thread.html" or whatever the first was called.

No updates recently...

I know its 5 years late but i think this could have been my ex husband is there anymore information on this person so i can put my mind at ease,as i was told he died in a differant way to this.?

The family of a backpacker missing in the Far East for 10 years have been told that human remains have been found in Cambodia.

Eddie Gibson disappeared aged 19 in October 2004 when he last made contact with his mother saying he was looking forward to coming home.

This week it emerged that human remains were found near a lake in Poipet near the Cambodian border with Thailand.

Mike Gibson, the father of Eddie, from Hove, East Sussex, said the site has been secured as a crime scene as more bones, including a skull, have been discovered.

A pair of underpants, possibly Calvin Klein's which Eddie wore, were found in the area and it is suspected the body found had a broken arm, which Eddie had.

Eddie's dental records are now being sent to the Far East to help in the identification process as his family said they hope to bring closure to years of heartache.

Mr Gibson said the family were "waiting with bated breath" to learn whether the body is definitely Eddie so they can finally bring him home.

He said: "On Monday we were phoned by a private investigator who has a presence in Cambodia and who investigates children who have gone missing.

"He was notified by border police at Poipet that there had been some human remains found near a lake on the border between Cambodia and Thailand, on the Cambodia side.

"Over the last couple of days they have secured it as a crime scene, and they have been able to get more bones, including a skull, and they are assembling the skeleton."

The family believe Eddie may have been murdered on his way back from Phnom Penh in the area where the human remains were found.

If further examination leads investigators to believe the remains are Eddie, then the bones will be sent to the British Embassy in Phnom Penh for DNA and dental record checks.

Mr Gibson said: "We are waiting with bated breath. For his mother and I, we have had nine and a half years of not knowing.

"We do hope it is Eddie so we can bring him home and bring an end to all this not knowing what has happened to him.

"It's a strange feeling, and if it's not him then it has just relived the whole thing and added to the torture."

Eddie was three weeks into a combined Asian and Pacific studies and international management course at Leeds University when he left to travel around Cambodia.

On October 24 2004, he sent his mother Jo an email saying he was "really looking forward to coming home".

But the message was the last his family heard from him, and when they went to meet him off a flight which left Bangkok, Thailand, on November 1, he was not there.

In 2006, four officers from Sussex Police's major crime branch spent 10 days in Phnom Penh, working alongside the Cambodian National Police.

Interviews were conducted with people who had contact with Eddie, hotels he stayed at were visited and officers also travelled to Poipet, but Eddie's whereabouts remained a mystery.

Detective Chief Inspector Jeff Riley, of Sussex Police, said: "We are aware of the finding of human remains in Cambodia that are currently being examined to see if they could belong to Eddie Gibson.

"We are continuing to support the Gibson family, as we have since Eddie went missing, and will help them and the Cambodia authorities through the Foreign and Commonwealth Office in any way we can to find out what has happened to him."

A Foreign and Commonwealth Office spokesman said: "We are aware of the reports and our thoughts remain with Eddie Gibson's family. We continue to be in contact with the family at this difficult time."

The family of a British backpacker who went missing in Cambodia 10 years ago have been told human remains which were found are reportedly not his.
Eddie Gibson, from Hove, East Sussex, disappeared in October 2004, when he was 19 years old.
His family were initially told that bones, including a skull, discovered near a lake in Poipet on the Cambodia-Thailand border, could be his.
But police in Cambodia have said the remains belong to an Asian person.
'Assembling the skeleton' Eddie's family were phoned on Monday by a private investigator in Cambodia, who had been notified by police of the discovery.
His father, Mike, had said the family were "waiting with bated breath" for confirmation of whether the remains were his son.
Dental records were being sent to South East Asia to help with the identification process.
But on Wednesday, the Cambodian Daily newspaper quoted provincial police chief Kheng Soum, who said: "After police carried out tests on the bones we concluded that they belong to an Asian person between 30 and 40 years old and that the time of death was about five years ago."
Not on board Mr Gibson said he was treating the information coming out of Cambodia with caution.
He added: "The information we were given contradicts what we have subsequently heard."
Sussex Police said they were aware of the find and were supporting the family.
Mr Gibson last made contact with his family on October 24 in an email, saying he was "really looking forward to coming home".
They went to meet him arrive in the UK from a flight that left Bangkok, Thailand, on 1 November, but he was not on board.

This is a lad from my hometown, I know his father, Mike.
It's been a long running traumatic time for all his family and friends.

It has really been a trial for the lads family SiT,
They were given lots of help and advice by expats but to no avail.
They also scoured websites like this looking for clues, which I why I wince when some people put derogatory comments about missing people.
