    Bangkok Airways delays A319 delivery

    Bangkok Airways delays A319 delivery

Bangkok Airways has delayed the delivery of an Airbus A319 aircraft to March, 2011 from November this year and cancelled an order for a turbo-prop ATR plane, Dow Jones reported.

The global economic downturn has also forced the privately-owned airline to put on hold its route expansion plan, as well as other investment projects.

"General slumping traffic worldwide is the major reason for the order cancellation and delay in delivery. It's going to be a very hard year for the airline business in 2009," Bangkok Airways senior vice president Peter Wiesner told Dow Jones.

He said the company is subject to some penalties for the order cancellation but didn't elaborate.

They just shot themselves in the foot Monday. Put their fuel surcharge up the weekend after global oil prices went down and prices worldwide were cut. Until they weed the connected dinosaurs out of Thai it will continue to flounder.

I flew to Hiroshima on Bangkok Air last year. It was less than 20,000 baht and they were great. The plane was spotless, the service polite and efficient and the flight was on time. Both the Captain and the First Officer were women, quite a surprise. I wish this airline the best of luck to survive, it's not a fly by night operation.

Have to admit, Bangkok Air has come a long way from a few domestic routes to an expanded internatinal Asian regional service. One of the few carriers in Asia that has remained stable - though, I believe they attempted to spread their wings a little too far, too fast. Good luck to them.....
