    Thaworn: Thaksin nearly arrested

    Thaworn: Thaksin nearly arrested
    6/07/2009

Former prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra narrowly escaped arrest in Kuala Lumpur, slipping out of his hotel ahead of police and flying to the Pacific Island country of Fiji, Deputy Interior Minister Thaworn Sennian said in Pattani province on Monday.

Mr Thaworn said the Malaysian government had cooperated with Thailand in planning to arrest the fugitive former prime minister on learning of he was staying at the Shangri-la Hotel in Kuala Lumpur.

But Thaksin was vigilant enough to escape arrest and caught a plane to Fiji.

The minister did not reveal when this happened.

through the underground carpark probably. The KL Shangri La carpark is a favourite covert route in and out of the hotel, especially when escorting whores.

Seems logical to me that all airport authorities should be alerted as to his comings and goings. Obviously, Malaysian officials knew of his whereabouts as he entred the country.....or not. Mr. T, man without a country - and several national passports.

I find it hard to believe the had a get-away-plane with on-duty pilots ready to go. Something is more than mildly suspicious about this story. I also doubt if the present powers in Thailand really want to bring him back here and make a martyr out of him. The red shirt riots would cripple the country if they did that. They talk big, but the Thai government is probably as relieved Thaksin got away as he is.

Even if he's traveling by private plane, which I'm sure he is, he still is required to pass through the checkpoints and whatnot - isn't he? This Thaksin manhunt has become quite silly and only a concern of a selected Thai circles. High profile as he is, one certainly understands that if the international policing community were serious and cooperative, he would have been apprehended some time back.....fvcking drama.

    'Thaksin was not in Malaysia'
    2009/07/07

Tan Sri Musa Hassan denies Thai authorities have informed the police about Thaksin Shinawatra’s presence in Malaysia Tan Sri Musa Hassan denies Thai authorities have informed the police about Thaksin Shinawatra’s presence in Malaysia

KUALA LUMPUR: Police here have denied that former Thai prime minister-turned-fugitive Thaksin Shinawatra was spotted in Malaysia recently and had escaped before the authorities could nab him.

Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Musa Hassan denied that Thai authorities had informed the police here about the presence of Thaksin in the country.

"I did not get a report and was never informed that Thaksin was in the country or escaped from police here."

Bernama reported yesterday that the Thai Deputy Interior Minister Thaworn Sennian had claimed that Thaksin was spotted in Malaysia, but escaped before he was arrested by authorities there.

Thaworn said in the southern province of Pattani that Thai Embassy officials had informed Malaysian authorities that the former premier was staying at the Shangri-La Hotel.

"Thai officials informed the Malaysian authorities about Thaksin's presence there.

Somehow, Thaksin managed to get wind of the impending arrest and managed to escape."

However, he did not provide any information on when the alleged incident took place.

According to Thaworn, Thaksin later left for Fiji.

The policeman-turned telecommunications billionaire ruled Thailand from 2001 to 2005 before he was ousted in a military coup on Sept 19, 2006 while he was attending the United Nations General Assembly.

He returned home briefly last year after his allies won the December 2007 general election, but remained in exile to escape the two-year jail term imposed on him for abuse of power.

Two prime ministers aligned to him were forced out of office and their party lost power to a coalition led by Democrat candidate Abhisit Vejjajiva.

Thaksin has been shuttling between his homes in London, Dubai, Hong Kong and recently, Germany, using various passports of other countries after his passport was cancelled by the Thai government.

Despite his absence, he remains popular with the north and northeast population, which was evident during two by-elections when his allies in the Phue Thi Party won.

    Noppadon: Thaksin did visit Malaysia
    7/07/2009

Former prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra did spend a night in Malaysia, his legal adviser Noppadon Pattama confirmed on Tuesday.

Mr Noppadon said Thaksin told him that his plane landed at Kuala Lumpur to refuel and he left for Fiji the following day.

The deposed prime minister planned to meet four world leaders after visiting Fiji, he said.

Mr Noppadon did not say when this took place.

On Monday, Deputy Interior Minister Thaworn Sennian said that Thaksin narrowly escaped arrest after the Malaysian government informed Thailand that the fugitive politician was staying at the Shangri-la Hotel in Kuala Lumpur.

Mr Thaworn said he understood Thaksin arrived in Malaysia on Saturday and left on Sunday.

"Somehow, Thaksin managed to get wind of the impending arrest and managed to escape," Mr Thaworn said.

This highly publicised "Thaksin chase" has become a farcical exercise in political propaganda.

Thaksin was obviously given a "get out of jail free card" on assumption he would go into exile and stay out of Thai politics. Something that may well have happened had the current government not frozen Thaksins financial assets.

These Keystone Cops parodies being reported to the Thai media by the current government only serve to elevate Thaksin as something of a persecuted folk hero among the poor masses who support him, rather than the image of a criminal on the run they are trying to portray. As anyone involved in advertising knows, if you want to sell your product you have to get your name out there and keep it in front of the public. The Democrats, by their childish media plays have certainly become an integral part of Thaksins publicity machine.

One has to ask the question what the motives of these wanna be international super sleuths in pursuit of Thaksin actually are? ---
Bring him home in handcuffs and imprison him? That would only create an even greater martyr figure to rally the anti-government supporters.
Discredit him as a criminal on the run? Well that certainly hasnt worked. Little more than preaching to the converted there, while building Thaksin up as a folk hero among his supporters.
Put pressure on Thaksin himself to shut him up? Nope, hasnt worked either.

This Thaksin chase media sideshow being put on by the Democrats is certainly not working in their favour, but they are too stupid to figure that out.

Poppycock. Never have used that word. OK. Bullshit.

More holes than a sieve. Typical Thai crap. Even an average schoolboy can come up with a better standard of lying.

They even lie badly, and that is pretty much their field of expertise.

Thaksin claims he got police escort in Malaysia
    Tuesday14/7/2009

Fugitive Thai former premier Thaksin Shinawatra got a special police escort when his private jet stopped over for refuelling in Kuala Lumpur earlier this month, media reports said yesterday, quoting Thaksin.

“My private jet stopped for refuelling in Malaysia and they sent 20 special-branch policemen to guard me,” Thaksin said in a phone-in interview with the FM 97.5 provincial radio station.

“They love and care about me,” he said of the Malaysians, according to The Nation newspaper.

Thaksin’s plane reportedly stopped for refuelling in Kuala Lumpur on July 4 and departed the next day for Fiji.

On Friday he reportedly returned to Dubai.

According to Malaysia, Thaksin haven't been to Malaysia.
I don't know wether it is an international plot to protect Thaksin or another rumour issued by politicians and spread by an overeager Thai press. (maybe both!
After Cambodia, now Malaysia, what next would be invented to maintain the pressure ... Seems like the Thai Establishment need a new scarecrow to unify the country and maintain the "statu quo"...

    Article from The Nation:
RUNAWAY EX-PM - Thaksin never in Malaysia nor given protection : Malaysia
    By The Star
    Asia News Network

Kuala Lumpur - Fugitive ex- Thai premier Thaksin Shinawatra was never in Malaysia nor was he given any special protection by the Special Branch as he has claimed, Malaysia's Inspector General of Police Tan Sri Musa Hassan said.

Musa said Malaysian police had no knowledge of any visit by Thaksin, despite earlier reports quoting Deputy Interior Minister Thaworn Senneam as saying Thaksin had been spotted in Malaysia recently, but left the country before he could be arrested by the authorities.
Thaworn said Thai embassy officials had informed the Malaysian authorities to seek Thaksin's arrest and extradition.
"We were only alerted by the Thai embassy here of the fugitive's supposed presence early this month following a news report in Bangkok.
"As far as we are concerned, he was never in the country and we did not send 20 Special Branch officers to protect him. We have checked with local hotels, Immigration and other sources, and there is no evidence to show that he was ever here,'' he said.
According to a report in Bangkok-based newspaper The Nation, Thaksin told a community radio that his private jet stopped in Kuala Lumpur on July 4 for refuelling and that 20 Special Branch officers were sent to protect him.
"They love and care about me," Thaksin said in the newspaper report which was also picked up by a Malaysian news portal.

The 'average' Thai is probably indifferent to such nonsense. Moreover, it might be the average Farang that is really caught up in The Tales of T-Square.

As usual, I think they took gossip as a fact-checked story ... It required the journalist to pick-up the phone and ask Malaysian authorities about it (ok maybe a few phone calls), which is not conceivable in Thai journalism...

A few months ago, I stopped wondering why politicians, buraucrates and military keep saying he is a convict on the run that no one should care about and at the same time can't stop talking about him (his "plans" to destroy the King, then the PM... Who he talks to, What he said and What he meant ...)
