Thai Children enjoy sexual assault scenes on TVs: survey

Children enjoy sexual assault scenes on TVs: survey

A recent survey has revealed shocking findings: many children enjoy watching scenes of rapes on TV and they come to see sexual assaults as something common.

"Some children even say they want to be like leading male characters in TV series so that they can rape a woman," Dr Noppadon Kannika said Tuesday as the head of the Assumption University's research centre, "This is worrying".

Conducted from April 24 to April 27, the survey covered 2,159 respondents in Bangkok and major cities. The respondent age starts from two years old up.

According to the survey, raping scenes are the favourite among 21.1 per cent of children aged between 13 and 19 years old, 10.3 per cent of children aged between two and six years old and 6.4 per cent of those aged from seven to 12 years old.

As the rapist in these drama frequently end up with the victim falling on love with him and living happily ever after, I can't say I am at all surprised. In addition, they probably know that even in they do get caught, if you have the right connections, you will be out on the street in no time anyway. Thailand appears to be getting more and more corrupt at all levels - politically, economically and morally. Surely one day it will have reached a point when things can only get better.......

    Thailand

The Television Classification System has been firstly introduced in the Kingdom of Thailand on 1st December 2006. The System is a project of the Government Public Relations Department by the Office of National Broadcasting Commission and all 6 Thai TV stations to set up a procedure of TV program classification. The main 4 (and 3 sub) rating signs (Thai characters) are now shown on screen before and during the duration of the program. However, the stations have to follow the existing laws - do and don't - on broadcasting program. The ratings (translated into English) used are as follows:
    • P - Pre-school Children: made for children aged 2 - 6. (ก)
    • C- Children: made for children aged 6 - 12. (ด)
    • G - General: for all ages. (ท)
    • PG - Parental Guidance: children and youth viewers should be advised by adults during viewing. (น)
    • PG13 - Parental Guidance 13: Unsuitable for children under 13 (น ๑๓)
    • PG18 - Parental Guidance 18: Unsuitable for children under 18 (น ๑๘)
    • S - Special: for viewers aged 18 and above only. (ฉ)

guess that didn't work then ...........

And this is what Jap culture has done to Thai youth. For all the positive influences Japanese culture has had on Thais, there are just as many negatives. Jap-pirated porn (often depicting rape scenes) filtering into BK neighbourhoods, polluting the minds of gullible Thai youth - soon we'll be reading about young upper class Thai teenagers giving blow jobs for grades on the front page of BK Post. Whats LOS coming to! Many Jap males (not just Yakuza males) pay for gang rape fantasy roleplay, and i dare say Thai males, for all their understanding of the world outside LOS (that ain't much) are thinking thats the happy ticket to a night of sanook sanook.

I watch the Simpsons, Futurama and South Park. Stuff that would be considered 'adult'. There are other cartoons I may watch also, not aimed at younger viewers obviously.

The Simpsons is always censored on True.

^Actually, all broadcasters and cable companies are very careful to obey the pixillate rule. I have True IPTV in BKK, and they do it. I have UBC in Phuket, but recently switched to a local cable company, and they do it, without fail, on every exposed breast, every smoked cigarette or cigar, every drink of alcohol, and other stuff.

Really funny though, on the movie channels, which seem to be broadcast directly from pirated DVDS nonstop, is that all the English native foul swear words are not censored out. (I guess cause they don't understand them), so you get FUK YU MUTHERFUKR said by a guy with a gun (blurred out), smoking a fag (blurred out), about to blow someone's brains away, which is quite good comedy.

So they censor the make-believe (which is what tv and movies are) and do nothing, nay -- encourage -- the same situations on the street.

HBO and their other channels don't pixellate.

Their movies are cut to shreds though, but you can still see people pointing guns and smoking cigarettes.

^Yes, that's true. I was referring to the cable broadcasts I'm now getting. But, it's hit and miss with HBO too. I had them for years, and they chop up the movies too.

I didn't realise that the Thai kids were in to that sort of stuff. I know mre LoomBs, and her family, love the beatings, the shoutings and the murders. Not to mention all the men who act like bastards and all the evil old women who poison half the cast before the end of the first episode. It's disturbing to think that it goes on and I hadn't noticed.
