On May 20th, 2025, at 1:00 AM, Mr. Thawin Siangkong, a 21-year-old volunteer with the Sawang Boriboon Rescue Unit in Pattaya, filed a police report at the Pattaya City Police Station. Accompanied by CCTV footage and evidence of damaged items, he reported to Police Lieutenant Arthit Sonkhamhan, Deputy Inspector (Investigation), that an unidentified foreign man had broken into the rescue volunteer booth at the Chaiyaphruek checkpoint on Sukhumvit Road near Moo 12.
The suspect, described as a large-built European man of unknown nationality, was captured on CCTV prying open the booth’s sliding glass door and rummaging through the contents. The break-in resulted in significant damage, including a shattered glass door and a damaged defibrillator (electric shock device). The suspect fled the scene after the incident.
Mr. Thawin told reporters that the volunteers were responding to an accident call at the time of the break-in. Upon returning, they discovered the broken glass door and immediately reviewed the CCTV footage, which revealed the foreign man’s actions. He added that the suspect later returned to the area, but when confronted, he denied any involvement and refused to acknowledge the CCTV evidence. Feeling helpless, the volunteers reported the incident to the police, hoping the authorities would track down the suspect and hold him accountable for the damages.
“We’re just volunteers with no salary, sacrificing our time to help the community,” Mr. Thawin said, expressing frustration. “If the suspect doesn’t compensate us, we’ll have to cover the repair costs ourselves. It’s disheartening.”
The police are investigating and working to identify the suspect to pursue legal action.
