Three American Bully Dogs Maul 70-Year-Old to Death in Khon Kaen

On July 25th, 2024, at 3:00 PM, Mr. Prasert Sipak, 33, arrived at Srinagarind Hospital to claim the body of his father, Mr. Lek Sipak, 70, who was fatally attacked by three American Bully dogs in their village in Phu Wiang, Khon Kaen, on the night of July 24th.

Prasert told Thai national media that he was working in Chonburi when he received a call from relatives informing him of his father and subsequent transfer to the hospital. Sadly, another call came half an hour later, confirming his father’s death. Prasert hurried home to handle the necessary arrangements and bring his father’s body back for funeral rites.

On the night of the incident, his father had been out collecting payment for frogs sold to a neighbor when the American Bully dogs fatally mauled him. Prasert mentioned he had yet to speak with the dog’s owner, who is a local teacher, but planned to do so after the funeral.

In response to the incident, local officials, including Sutthirak Duangtanoy, the sub-district head, visited the site. They met with the dog’s owners, Mr. Sakon, 49, and Mrs. Saowanee, 46, to provide guidance on managing aggressive dogs and preventing future occurrences. Officials recommended clear warning signs and secure fencing around the property.

At the scene, a single-story house with a 1.5-meter-high iron gate, Saowanee showed Thai reporters the three dogs. The attack occurred near the iron gate, where the victim’s red bicycle and bloodstains were still visible on the ground.

Saowanee recounted that she had securely closed the gate with three wires and an unlocked padlock before leaving to shop in the village. Upon returning, she found her three dogs attacking the victim, who was still alive but in great pain. She reportedly managed to confine the dogs and called for medical support.

Despite her dogs never having bitten anyone before, she was uncertain if the victim had opened the gate himself. Saowanee expressed her willingness to assist with funeral expenses, pending further discussion with the victim’s family, according to Thai national media.

The victim’s family has reportedly agreed not to press charges in exchange for compensation and the dogs are evidently going to be given for free to a dog trainer as the owner no longer wishes to keep them around.

    ^Makes no sense at all.

I love dogs but think they should be put down if they’ve killed someone.

I think the onus should be on the owner to seek out and meet with the victims family rather than the other way around.

Pretty much sums up this shitty country. A dog's life is worth more than a human’s and Thai value money more than justice.

Ghastly place, shitty people and a shitty society.

I agree but the problem would be in finding someone who would put the dog down.

Nah. Farmers kill dogs that kill their skanky chickens. Surely some relative of the dead guy would do the deed.

From my enquiries on Google, If the funeral is paid for, and compensation is agreed, then life goes on.

RIP, Mr Lek Sipak. I hope his family finds justice (and peace).

I've only seen/ met one American bully dog. It wasn't very big or terrifying. It looked cute enough but I bet its jaws were powerful. It was a female dog & was being walked by its owner. It was in heat. I was walking my mom's male dog at the time. My dog sniffed the female's parts, then attempted to jump on her. Lol. I moved my dog away from her. I've heard that for those breeds, a female pup costs ~40k pesos while a male costs P30k. (A corgi costs P80k, accdg to a friend.)

I've only seen 1 pitbull - it was large & scary. I would never buy/ have a dog like that.

^ they are banned now in the UK. Too many incidents of them attacking children and adults, quite a few fatalities. Two days ago was a case of an owner getting killed by his dog. One less idiot in the world.
