BANGKOK (NNT) - The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) and the Department of Disease Control (DDC) have teamed up with various businesses to launch the “Dengue Heroes Towards Zero Death” campaign, an initiative aimed at curbing the growing threat of dengue fever in Bangkok. The campaign aligns with the World Health Organization's goal to eradicate dengue-related deaths by 2030 and coincides with ASEAN Dengue Day on June 15.

A key event promoting the campaign recently took place in Din Daeng district, where community members gathered to focus on preventive measures such as maintaining cleanliness and enhancing drainage systems. These efforts are crucial for minimizing the breeding grounds of Aedes mosquitoes, particularly during the rainy season, which provides optimal conditions for mosquito proliferation.

Thailand has reported nearly 30,000 dengue cases from January to May this year, with 29 deaths. The DDC estimates that the number of cases could escalate to 280 by the end of the year.

Bangkok Governor Chadchart Sittipunt highlighted the city’s comprehensive dengue prevention strategies, including active surveillance, eliminating mosquito breeding sites, and strong community engagement. The campaign has so far attracted support from partners such as the Embassy of Japan in Thailand, the National Electronics and Computer Technology Center, and major Thai corporations, including Amata Plc and CP ALL Plc.
