British Man Killed in Pattaya Motorcycle Accident

A British man was killed in a motorcycle accident in Pattaya on the night of May 21st, 2024. An eyewitness claimed the deceased was arguing with another driver while driving in heavy rain before the accident occurred.

At around 11:06 PM, Nongprue police and Sawang Boriboon rescue workers received reports of the accident on Soi Map Yai Lia 24, Nongprue sub-district, Banglamung district, Chonburi province. They immediately rushed to the scene.

Upon authorities’ arrival, they found the victim, publicly identified later by police as Mr. John William Palmer, a 56-year-old British national, lying on the roadside. Beside him was his severely damaged bronze Honda Air Blade motorcycle. Mr. John was pronounced dead at the scene by rescue teams due to serious injuries.

According to an eyewitness, identified by police only as Mr. Panithan, 27, Mr. John was seemingly arguing with a vendor riding a saleng (a motorbike with a side car) in the middle of a heavy rain before the accident. The eyewitness stated that the saleng overtook Mr. John’s motorbike, and shortly after this, Mr. John suddenly lost control of his vehicle and crashed into a power pole.

Nongprue police are investigating the incident and have collected CCTV footage from the area to identify the other involved driver and further determine if the statements from the eyewitness were correct. The victim’s body was taken to Banglamung Hospital, where it awaits the arrival of his family.

Today's rant: my most hated vehicle on the road

In March various Chanthaburi transport, health agencies and police held a forum on the salaengs and the high number of reported accidents involving them on local roads.

They estimate there are beween 3000-4000 of them in the province (population 520,000 so not quite 'everyone' has one) - no accurate figure as they are mostly unregistered.

And unregisterable. Most have no lights, no indicators, attached to shitty old bikes missing a registration plate and worst of all fitted with oversized overhanging 'roofs' or umbrellas often making them wider than an average car.

The solution? A case of 'too big a problem' so this month police have come up with a clever solution, they have been stopping salaengs and applying pieces of adhesive reflective tape to the sidecars, proudly putting pics of this achievement on the police Facebook page, seems they've been granted an exemption under the 'too big a problem' category, and get sent on their merry way minus lights, indicators, registration . . . and a little bit of sticky tape.

Note: twice while cycling I've been clipped by sidecars, 2013 put me in hospital, second one can't remember the year about 2017 maybe the driver a boy looked about 7-8 had a passenger in the sidecar a girl of about 3. This was on an open road/highway, low speed i ended up unhurt in a ditch of long grass.

willy, you are obsessed with posting on every thread, you are a fucking loon, or as they say in todays parlance you have "mental health issues."

you are like the unwashed nutter on the bus with halitosis and acne that tries to engage in conversation with anybody and everybody who can only be avoided by changing seats and moving away.

Poor bastard (the deceased). He might have missed a fantastic 25 to 30 years of retirement in Thailand.

i have seen many old farangs riding these dilapidated abominations, nearly always with a mangy dog and a fat spouse sitting shotgun.

i assume these farangs have become victim to a combination of falling exchange rates and inflation and in an effort to come to terms with their enforced penury and maintain their retirement visas have had to sell the air-conditioned vigo or yaris and go native.

they rarely look happy, i suppose it must be hot and uncomfortable on those things with the wobbling spouses nearly always displaying an unattractive combination of disgruntlement, resentment and sullenness as they ponder their status destroying descent down the social ladder and wonder if they could have done better than marrying the beery loser on their right.

No no, tax has the self awareness of Trump.

He'll post a comment like that two minutes after his 'target' has posted and it won't even occur to him.

god forbid man, i was never a tefler.

i was a "conversation consultant" in order to pay for my "ahem" expenses whilst on sabbatical in thailand, but even during my most perilous forays into low sleaze and high decadence i always knew that i would return to my first and only love, dentistry.

I thought a Honda Air Blade sounded like a big bike until I looked it up.

I mean dying doing 150mph on a Harley or Ducati, your mates are going to say "He died doing what he loved" but puddling off the road pissed on a glorified moped, well....
