Driver killed, 29 passengers injured in tour bus accident in Lampang

The driver was killed and 29 Thai and foreign passengers were injured, two of them seriously, when their tour bus, bound for Bangkok from Chiang Mai, skidded off the road and hit a tree on Tuesday night.

The accident occurred on the Phahonyothin Road in Ban Mae Tia in the Thoen district of Lampang province.

The driver, identified as Churapat Pramaso, became trapped behind the steering wheel, requiring emergency workers to use hand tools to get him out, but he was already dead.

Most of the passengers were only slightly injured, but two suffered more serious injuries. All were taken to Thoen and Lampang hospitals for treatment.
Police think that the slippery road conditions, following heavy rain, might have contributed to the bus driver losing control of the vehicle.

I rather think the more likely cause, but unpalatable to the hypocritical Thai unwilling to acknowledge their inherent incompetence, was that Somchai was driving too quickly for the conditions. He was probably too stupid to process the added factor of rain falling during his journey.

Was always fun going along Vipawadee-Rangsit just after the first rain. It bringing up 6 months of grease, oil and shite into the inch of water suddenly on the road always resulted in great games of bumper-cars.

Poor bugger. No doubt a family has lost their breadwinner.
