American Expat in Pattaya Wins Hearts by Giving Away Motorbike Helmets

An American expat in Pattaya has been winning hearts online for his acts of kindness towards children.

Savvy Rick Brown, a 57-year-old TikTok user, has been going around handing out helmets to children who are not wearing them while riding motorcycles with their parents. In one of his videos posted on his account “savvyrickbrown,” Brown is seen stopping a motorbike with two children. He then asked the parents if he could give their children a helmet. The parents were visibly touched by his gesture and gratefully accepted the helmet.

Brown’s act of kindness has gathered numerous attention from people online, with some of his TikTok videos receiving more than one million views. Many people praise Brown for his care for children, and some have even shared their own experiences of being injured in motorcycle accidents when they were young.

In an interview with local media, Brown explained that he decided to start giving away free motorbike helmets after witnessing many children in Pattaya riding motorcycles without helmets. Growing increasingly concerned, he decided to go out, buy helmets, and start offering them for free on the side of the road.

Brown said that he has been living in Thailand for the past 18 months and has grown to love the country and its people. He understood that some families may lack money to buy helmets, so he just wants to help them out.

With his own money, Brown has been offering free helmets for six months. He is committed to giving away one million helmets with the help of donors and people in his home country. He hopes that his efforts will help to raise awareness about the importance of helmet safety in Thailand.

The fucking idiot sap has failed to understand that children not wearing a crash helmet has fuck all to do with cost, a 100 bt can get you one from Lazada, and everything to do with an inherent thoughtless, reckless and endemic indifference to safety fostered by a negligent society incapable of enforcing a health and safety regime prescribed by most civilised societies.

And in truth most cheap helmets and those given away free by dealers with the sale of every new bike are probably as useful in offering protection to the head as an aspirin.

Just another airheaded septic adding an imagined substance to an otherwise utterly futile life.

He may well be thinking somewhat wishfully, but this level of vituperation is hardly merited.

Perhaps some time with a cool flannel on your forehead is needed before you hit Tahitian Queen for happy hour.

And just who the fuck appointed you as moderator of the fucking planet, you silly queen.

My disdain for overgrown septics too stupid to grasp the futility of their conduct is quite proportionate, thank you very much.

    Proportionate to what, exactly?

Well DW, as Westerners we have grown accustomed to people that attempt to do nice things for others getting sued. I doubt its on any radar here.

What makes me laugh about the armchair quarterback SA is he has totally lost sight of it all. He sits at his little computer desk screaming at the world. But one can't expect much living in a box in a tourist dump with his BF cooking him meals as he looks out his window at the Russian mushrooms pissing in the community pool that he never uses anyway. He is a lot like that old codger Tax. Blowhards with all the answers trapped in a box.

You’re right, they won’t sue him but you can bet your ass the anti-farang concerned citizens will come after him, most likely with pet police or immigration officers!

Have the Tahitian queen stopped giving you an icy towel and a quick grope upon entry? And that we now need to provide our own ? Golly.

Sometimes, the simple act of giving is its own reward.

Indeed, and with the secondary effect of publicity for safety helmets when riding motorbikes. Unfortunately, there are no safety standards associated with helmets in Thailand and they are pretty much useless for anything other than not getting fined by the police.

one could therefore deduce that the well meaning american is doing little other than instilling a false sense of security into parents and riders who havent bothered to give a damn about safety for many years anyway, and knowing the thai may now drive with even less care believing that they are now well protected from harm.

    1. She's the only one getting fined for not wearing

    2. She's the provider. Makes sense

    3. Kid sized helmets available except for where the Seppos roam ?

10 year old boys, who just did the last sniff on the glue/gasoline, doing 80 through the village on their parents' motobike, always amazed me more.

I was trawling through the internet and apparently Index make a reasonable and cheap helmet. Can anyone confirm this or know of a similar brand that is adequate.

I don't ride bikes on the road any longer. I only ride them to the farm (a couple of km) on village roads and that's a rarity. It's not that I don't want to ride a bike, I have just never trusted local Thais on the road. It's dangerous enough in an SUV, no need to multiply the risk a hundredfold.

    Understandable

But live a little, I'd step onto a Boeing if I had to

I defend despite working for the opposition.

    That's saying something.

as a rule, thais, who often seem to spend most of their lives on 2 wheels, have developed extremely good biking skills. their balance and their ability to read the road and effortlessly weave through traffic is a source of amazement to me. sometimes there is more than 1 pillion passenger, and they may be packing heavy and bulky loads. their phones are never out of sight either.

it would seem that most m'cycle accidents/deaths are the fault the far less skilful and much more negligent car and truck drivers than the m'cycle riders, apart that is from the often spectacular accidents caused by the stereotypical drunken, gormless or thrill seeking and luckless chickenhead who if they werent killing themselves on their bikes are so genetically inept at life that they would probably be killing themselves whilst using a pencil sharpener, can opener or taking a piss.

^ Sorry, I missed the joke, my bad.

For me 'Boing' as in 'Boing said Zeberdee' is a reserved word...euphemism for 'time for bed'

Clarify? I worked on Boeing products in the 90's but I switched to working for Airbus for the last 20 years or so.

Clarify wasn't the right word then

"You try to be neutral and objective regarding Boeing's mishaps and incidents"

And do not want to sing in the Media's choir of 'go get Boeing'

    Better ?
