Thread: Live Hand Grenade Found in Pattaya Residential Area

A live M26 hand grenade was discovered in a residential area in Pattaya on April 22nd, 2024, prompting a police investigation.


The grenade was found wrapped in a blue-gray multipurpose cleaning cloth near a house on Soi 9 of Wat Bun Samphan in the Nongprue sub-district, Banglamung district, Chonburi province. Upon receiving the report, Nongprue police, along with the Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) unit from the Chonburi Provincial Police, rushed to the scene.


According to the EOD unit, the grenade was in 100% working condition. They also discovered two 9mm bullets inside a black aluminum box nearby. For the safety of nearby residents, police officers placed a car tire over the grenade and evacuated residents within a 200-meter radius to allow the EOD specialists to collect the grenade.

Mr. Prathum Chomsawat, a 73-year-old security guard, told The Pattaya News The Pattaya News that he was hired to clean up garbage in the area this morning. While he was clearing the grass with a machete, he stumbled upon the grenade wrapped in cloth. Upon unwrapping it, he was shocked to discover the live hand grenade. Fortunately, the deadly weapon still has its safety pin, so Mr. Prathum immediately informed the local community leader and contacted the police.


The EOD unit revealed that the grenade and bullets would be kept at the Nongprue Police Station for documentation before being destroyed. The investigation into who hid the grenade there is ongoing, with police initially suspecting local teenagers in the area.
