Pattaya Police Nab Drug Dealer After Dramatic Car Chase and Shootout

A dramatic car chase and shootout unfolded in Pattaya on the afternoon of May 23rd, resulting in the arrest of an alleged drug dealer. The dealer was shot in the leg by police officers after pointing his gun at officers.

The incident began when Pattaya police, led by Police Chief Pol. Col. Nawin Thirawit, received a report of gunfire and injuries around 2:16 PM on Jomtien Second Road, Nongprue sub-district, Banglamung district, Chonburi province. They immediately responded to the scene.

There, police discovered Pol. Lt. Col. Chaimet Chaiwanruj, Deputy Superintendent of Na Jomtien Police Station, along with his team, apprehending Mr. Adisak Chanthong, also known as “Jo Jomtien,” 45. Mr. Adisak had sustained a gunshot wound to his right leg and was provided first aid by Sawang Boriboon rescue workers before being rushed to the hospital under police custody.

At the incident scene, police found a damaged Isuzu D-Max pickup truck, which had crashed onto a median strip and lost tires on the front driver’s side.

They also found bloodstains believed to be that of Mr. Adisak’s and a black backpack containing illicit drugs inside the car. The backpack contained 30 grams of methamphetamine, 150 methamphetamine pills divided into packets, drug paraphernalia, a digital scale, and a 9mm pistol with 15 rounds of ammunition. These items were collected as evidence.

According to a team of Na Jomtien police involved in the arrest, they conducted an undercover operation to arrest Mr. Adisak who was suspected to be a drug dealer.

The officers lured the suspect to meet on Soi Pattaya-Jomtien 11. However, during the transaction, the suspect attempted to flee in his vehicle. Officers pursued and fired at the tires to immobilize the vehicle, but the suspect continued driving with ruptured tires. The suspect’s vehicle eventually lost control and crashed onto the median strip.

Na Jomtien police cornered the lone suspect, but he still refused to surrender. Instead, police said he brandished a handgun and pointed it towards the officers, causing the officers to shoot the suspect in self-defense. The bullet hit the suspect in the leg, prompting him to give up.

The suspect is reportedly being treated for his wound. Police said once he has recovered, Na Jomtien police will interrogate him and proceed with further legal action.
