Indian, British and Thais Arrested for Drunk Driving in Patong

An Indian, a British man, and two Thai riders were arrested in Patong for drunk driving.

The Patong Police told the Phuket Express that earlier this week they had set up a police checkpoint on the Taweewong Road after midnight until 2:30 A.M.. Four suspicious motorbike riders were stopped at the police checkpoint. They were all given alcohol breath tests which were all over the legal blood alcohol limit of .50.

The information released on the suspects was as follows:

Mr. Jame, 34, British national test showed .58 milligrams percent of alcohol.

Mr. Chaithanya, 41, Indian national test showed .71milligrams percent of alcohol.

Mr. Sirat, 44, Thai national test showed .57 milligrams percent of alcohol.

Mr. Jirapan, 28, Thai national test showed .241 milligrams percent of alcohol.

They were all taken to the Patong Police Station to face charges of drunk driving.

In Thailand, driving under the influence of alcohol is taken seriously, with strict penalties in place to deter such behavior. If caught driving while intoxicated, individuals can face the following consequences:

Jail Time: Offenders may be imprisoned for up to one year.

Fines: The fine for drunk driving ranges from 5,000 to 20,000 Thai Baht.

License Suspension or Revocation: Convicted drivers may have their licenses suspended or revoked for a period of up to six months.

Mr Jirapan won by a fair distance. But, if he has police force family members then he may be the only fella not to be prosecuted - just wild baseless speculation.

^ Yes. According to the figures in the article, he was the lowest.

However, I reckon the journos or translators at the Phuket Express have made a cock-up. At the top of the article is a bit of Thai text that says this:

Mr. Chaithanya, 41, Indian national test showed 71milligrams percent of alcohol.
Mr. Jame, 34, British national test showed 58 milligrams percent of alcohol.
Mr. Sirat, 44, Thai national test showed 57 milligrams percent of alcohol.
Mr. Jirapan, 28, Thai national test showed 241 milligrams percent of alcohol.

This shows Mr Jirapan to be the highest.

One of those rare occasions I have to heartily agree with sybille: This is comedy gold.

I remember when they quoted the number of people charged with DUI over New Year and the remarkable disparity between that and the number of people attending the police station to "face justice".

I thought the court was where you faced justice, the police station is just a money collection point
