Lisa Blackpink’s birthday celebration turns into free meatball day in Buriram

Local authorities in collaboration with the private sector designates March 27, Lisa Blackpink’s birthday as ‘Buriram Meatball Day’, with over 700 kilograms of pork balls given away for free.

Thai singer, rapper, and K-Pop sensation Lisa Manoban, also known as Lisa Blackpink is a Burirum native. She made the local delicacy, deep-fried meatball called “Luk Chin Yuen Kin” (translated as eating meatball while standing) well-known when she expressed her craving for the meatballs sold at Buriram train station, her hometown. Thanks to Lisa, local vendors of Buriram-style meatballs enjoy a surge in sales again.

The term “Luk Chin Yuen Kin” originated from train passengers who would consume meatballs while standing, as it was a quick and convenient snack before boarding the train. These traditional pork meatballs are typically savored with dried chili and tamarind sauce.

On Lisa’s 27th birthday, Buriram residents gathered for festivities at the train station, where over 700 kilograms of meatballs were distributed for free to both locals and tourists. A large cake adorned with meatballs was made for Lisa’s birthday, fostering a heartwarming ambiance.

Chairman of the Buriram Tourism Industry Council, Chatchaipat Sararam highlighted that the community has been commemorating Lisa’s birthday for three consecutive years.

This year, both the public and private sectors agreed to mark March 27, Lisa’s birthday, as ‘Buriram Meatball Day’. Plans are underway to establish annual activities aimed at promoting tourism and elevating the event to a national scale to attract visitors to the province.

He expressed gratitude to Lisa for promoting Buriram’s meatball culture and boosting the economy, which contributes to generating income to the people of Buriram. On her birthday, he wished Lisa happiness, good health, and continued energy to entertain her fans.

During the event, meatball-pattern pants are introduced to promote the province’s local identities. The similar lightweight pants launched in many Thai provinces become popular souvenirs among tourists.
