PHUKET: Two New Zealand men were arrested after injuring a local traffic policeman and trying to snatch his pistol on Saturday evening, police said.

At 3.50pm on Saturday, Pol Sen Sgt Maj Somsak Noo-iad, a traffic policeman from Chalong station, ordered a stop on Hamish Day, 36, and Oscar Day, 38, on Chaofa (East) Road in tambon Chalong of Muang district as they were riding motorcycles fast in a community zone and failed to stay in the left lane. The visitors did not stop. but instead ped up to escape. Then Pol Sen Sgt Maj Somsak followed them.

The foreigners finally stopped their motorcycles but shouted. The policeman used his mobile phone to record their reactions. The two men then blocked the recording and attacked the policeman, forcing him to the ground and trying to snatch his pistol. During the fight, the pistol went off once but the bullet did not hit anybody.

Other policemen from Chalong station rushed to the scene and arrested both New Zealanders. They were later charged with robbery, obstruction of police duty, physical attack against a policeman, driving without a licence and bribery.

The station chief said that after being arrested, both men offered a bribe but Pol Sen Sgt Maj Somsak turned it down.

lets hope they get taken to a back room and "roughed up" a little by any policeman that wants to show support for their colleague.

They're lucky the next cops on the scene didn't arrive guns "blazing". I hope they don't have kids back home. They aren't going to see their dad for some years.

Another scenario to be considered: Fat Somchai hooks two farang on bogus offence who ignore him and carry on. Fatboy pursues them and they stop to find out what the problem is. Fatboy screams and yells at them and draws his handgun. The two farang fearing the worst get the jump on him and disarm Fatboy whereupon one farang removes the ammo clip from the weapon while the other restrains Fatboy. They then try to negotiate with Fatboy having removed lethality from the incident.

Yes, I expect they'll assert something like that was what happened. I've read online that they're both fathers and their own father has a deep pocket. One of these morons was until recently chief executive of his father's company which teaches computer programming in schools across Assia and the Pacific. The moron's name has just been removed from the company's website.

Not riding in the left lane is a genuine offence. Also not stopping when instructed to by a policeman.

If they had been in an accident with a Thai driven pickup and Pol Sen Sgt Maj Fat Somchai showed up they would only be too happy to see him.

It's common practice for cops looking to stretch their pay.

I wonder if anyone did a BAC on the 2 guys? I agree with HappyNz. These aren't kids, they are mid to late 30 yr old adults. I mean reaching for an officers gun?...come on! IMHO these 2 clowns are lucky they both didn't get shot.

Maybe a good 1 or 2 year stay will broaden their horizons. The parent reportedly have millions so the families will be cared for on their "extended" stay.

I'm curious how 2 married Kiwi men can vacation for a couple of weeks in Thailand without their wives and children. Perhaps Kiwi women are buffalos.
