12 political activists in Hong Kong have been sentenced to between six and a half and seven years in prison for storming parliament during pro-democracy demonstrations back in 2019.

Two journalists have also been fined for entering parliament during the riots, Ritzau reported.

One of the activists, Owen Chow, said during the trial that "rebellion is the language of the unheard," which is a quote from civil rights activist Martin Luther King.

"How a political regime deals with dissent, and whether it can correct its mistakes, will determine whether a society can sustain sustainable growth," Chow said.
