On March 13th, 2024, Thong Pha Phum police and relevant agencies received a report of illegal foreign immigration smuggling to Thailand. The officers patrolled the reported area and found 22 Myanmar nationals who illegally crossed the border in Thong Pha Phum, Kanchanaburi.

At the incident scene, the officers found footmarks and a pickup truck parked near a forest in the Tha Khanun subdistrict. Nobody was spotted inside the vehicle. However, the officers searched the area and detected illegal Myanmar workers hiding in the forest.

As a result, more than 22 Myanmar nationals were captured and escorted to Thong Pha Phum. However, the driver who transported the Myanmar workers was able to flee the police pursuit. The police gave the illegal immigrants food and drink as they appeared quite weary.

According to the police report, Myanmar nationals reportedly confessed to the police that they paid 13,000 to 15,000 baht per person to Thai agencies to take them to work in central Thailand. The police then escorted them to Thong Pha Phum inquiry police for further legal processing.

Previously on March 12th, the Thong Pha Phum officers were able to intercept illegal foreign immigration smuggling of 13 Myanmar nationals and one Thai navigator.

Due to a recent mandatory conscription policy in Myanmar, which is embroiled in conflicts between the military junta and multiple groups, many Myanmar citizens are attempting to flee to Thailand through both legal and illegal means as we reported here.
