A Russian man was arrested at a restaurant on the Pha Ngan Island in Surat Thani after he allegedly hired three illegal Myanmar workers.

The Koh Pha Ngan Island authorities told the Phuket Express that earlier this week they arrested the 47-year-old unidentified Russian man in question. He presented himself to police as the restaurant owner. He is facing charges of being an employer who did not report to legal officials of hiring employees within 15 days, allowing foreigners to work as a cashier, employing foreigners who did not have work permits, and providing a working place for illegal workers.

Police also arrested two Myanmar men aged 33 and 34, and one 18-year-old Myanmar woman. One of them was facing charges of illegally entering Thailand and working without permission. Two of them are facing charges of being foreigners who have work permits but did not report themselves as being employed to officials within 15 days and working outside of their legal work permit obligations.

They were all taken to the Koh Pha Ngan Police Station.
