Coal plant’s toxic emissions from across Laos border fuel Thailands health and enviro

The Thai-funded Hongsa plant operates from neighbouring Laos where environmental scrutiny is weak. In recent years, Thai citizens have found mercury and other acidic gases drifting to their homes.

Maybe a Hg vapour, hard to know without more data, suffice to say mercury only become a gas at 350+ celsius , considering paper burns around 250C I think Laos has either melted or there are errors, where is our cured Ham Simon when we need him, a rectal thermometer reader would be just the ticket, Candy too!!

Even small amounts of quicksilver are toxic why many have had older type dental fillings removed.
Of course a any have before I bow to Taxssextile on oral matters.

    Mercury and health
How hot is the steam in a coal power plant?

    1,000 °F

The saturated steam is introduced into superheat pendant tubes that hang in the hottest part of the combustion gases as they exit the furnace. Here the steam is superheated to 1,000 °F (540 °C) to prepare it for the turbine.

However the winblown gasess will cool 20 miles distant
Bromine the only other element liquid at 25C can be ussed to offset at a cost

The mercury in dental amalgam fillings is stable, and of no danger. I suppose some people may claim super sensitivity to dental amalgam fillings and announce themseves cured of all sorts of diseases, imaginary and otherwise, after the removal of their amalgam fillings, but no clinical proof exists to back up these claims.

Removal of dental amalgam fillings can cause the release of small amounts of mercury vapour, most is collected by the suction systems used by the dentist, but some may be inhaled. However the amounts are so small and should not cause any side effects. Better to leave amalgam fillings in situ if removal is not required for clinical reasons.

Amalgam fillings are banned from Jan 2025 in the UK, and are not used on pregnant women or kids under 15, ( and in the spirit of inclusion, diversity and tolerance that is part and parcel of healthcare in the UK these days, I feel obliged to add that I dont know if this rule applies to pregnant men with tits, wombs and pussies, but they are already so fucked up with hormones and drugs that a bit of mercury is hardly likely to do any more damage.)

Thanks for your insiders input in your own inimitable style, tho I too was asked to tick if pregnant on some NHS form a few years back, one of those default tick boxes that must be answered to get to the next page which if memory serves was to get a covid jab. FYI as I am sure all know I'm a decaying old white guy way past the menopause and the nearest I've had to sex change was winter snow tyres for driving in Finland

As for the poor peasant farmers this toxin will outlive them, were the plant in LOS their hope of compensation, resettlement slim, as it is EGAT in league with Lao regime no chance, all in an age where burning lignite is the last thing we need.

The bigger picture is another price of the lack of transparency and accountability in both countries and disrespect for those creating the smallest footprint the very lifestyle that needs fostering not poisoning.

Its the way of the world.

Too many people needing and consuming too much of everything, especially energy.

Green energy is at the moment prohibitively expensive, causing increasingly loud murmurings of discontent from both producers and consumers of just about everything, as the politicians of western countries responsible for the dictatorial push to green are finding out, much to their chagrin.

No such problems in SEAsia, where governments are reluctant to burden businesses with the increased costs associated with cleaning up the environment, costs that will make their products uncompetitive to export.

Population control is the answer, and I suppose poisoning people with mercury is one small step etc.etc.etc.

Horrendous, poor people. Clean cheap renewable energy cannot come quickly enough!

Owned by a bunch of greedy Jek families I see, who would have thought!

One of the mother companies logo's:

    How ironic.

    Cunts

Why Thailand doesn't go Nuclear is f'ing beyond me, they have no real enemies to worry about the sabotage aspect.

I wonder if Kasikorn Bank invested because I know Khun Lamsam has a massive home in Nan

they don't need saboteurs, they are their own worst enemies sometimes. Chunks of concrete falling off overhead roadways, 3km lengths of power cable falling off overhead railways.
Don't forget the continual failure to maintain brakes of trucks and busses, causing yet another crash "oh, not my fault, the brakes failed"

Who would trust them with a nuclear power plant ?

^it's a valid point and one that I knew someone would make. Hopefully it wouldn't be the case with something as fragile as this.

Maybe you should examine why you parrot such misinformation

Solar has been the cheapest source of energy production for several years

Solar is not of much use in the UK or Northern Europe for over 6 months of the year, likewise the expensive taxpayer subsidised onshore windfarms because it just isnt windy enough. You rarely see them turning. The chinese who produce these monstrosities though are laughing all the way to the bank as their factories, powered by coal burning sourced electricity, churn them out for the gullible fools of the west.

Maybe its different in hot countries or for offshore windfarms.
