Chiang Mai Forests Ravaged by Wildfires

Fires have devastated approximately 30,000 rai (4,800 hectares) of forest across three districts in Chiang Mai province, according to local officials. The blazes, which began about a week ago, have primarily affected the Ob Luang National Park. The fires, erupting almost simultaneously in Hot, Chomg Thong, and Mae Cham districts, continue to burn uncontrolled. Villagers' practices of searching for edible foods and the burning of farm remnants are believed to be the cause of these fires.

The fires have been visible at night, lighting the sky red, while during the day, white smoke covers the areas, indicating the consumption of dry foliage by the flames. Deputy Chiang Mai Governor Thossapol Puan-udom stated on Sunday (Feb 25) that he is actively involved in managing efforts to extinguish the fires. The challenging terrain of the high mountain areas, coupled with the current dry and hot weather, has made firefighting efforts particularly difficult.

In response to the crisis, the fire command center in Hod district has requested aerial support from the Natural Resources and Environment Ministry, which in turn is seeking assistance from the Third Army Area for aircraft to aid in combating the fires.

Additionally, the Chiang Mai PM2.5 monitoring center has identified 69 hotspots in the region as of Sunday, with the majority located in Hot district. Other affected areas include the districts of Mae Cham, Doi Tao, Chomg Thong, Mae Taeng, San Sai, Prao, Mae Kwang, and Chiang Dao.

The Thai word "ระอุ" which is often translated as "erupt" can also mean "to break out", " to be extremely hot" and "to appear suddenly"

You, as both an ex- tefler and retiree in thailand with many years exposure to the language, should know that precise translations from thai to english and from english to thai are, more often than not, dependent on context and can at first often seem inaccurate, however in this case the meaning in relation to the subject under discussion is perfectly clear to anyone with even half a brain and you are just being your usual intensely annoying, unnecessarily pedantic and aggressively argumentative self.

So why dont you just STFU.

That doesn’t make the word appropriate in English, you utter dick.

You calling me ‘argumentative’ is not unlike your tedious insistence on me being…wait for it…a tax exile.

But the meaning is quite clear, and that is all that is necessary. To convey meaning is all that is needed. Insistence on accuracy is quite unecessary.

You are like one of those old british colonial blimps that think that shouting in english to a foreigner will make it easier to understand.

Are you actually trying to be comically hypocritical?

Are you completely unaware that you are describing your character as displayed on this forum to a tee?

Obviously you got out of the wrong side of the bed this morning.

Sybille's point is obviously that the fucking things didn't start themselves, and as usual the Thais refuse to identify or address the real cause of the problem.

Anyone who cares to drive around these areas will find the military burning the grass in front of their grand camps, the municipality setting fire to the verges because it, er, "stops fires", etc. etc.

    The language used is typical.

It ignores the obvious fact that these fires are started by (mostly) Thai people.

There's frequently an agenda in the Thai media to 'fudge' that issue.

Tax made an interesting point about the Thai word. They're called 'false friends', tax.

After that he introduced some wildly inaccurate and irrelevant ad hom. which related only to the crusty old buffoon he plays here almost constantly.

The air purifier has kicked up a few times this afternoon. That hasn’t happened since last burning season.

Fires where I live are an annual occurrence and premeditated. There's a 10 km road that runs from where I live to Route 24. Everyday it is used as a rubbish dump by drivers traveling it. For the local amphur to clean this up after a year of dumping will be cost a lot and is labour intensive. So what they do every year, around this time, is that they send out a tractor, towing a grass shredder down this route shredding all accessible dumped rubbish and dry vegetation. We all know that once this has been done someone will put a match to it. Always done at night. Consequently we have this annual so called 'wild fires'.
No sooner that the fire has cooled then out come the self employed rubbish collectors who collect all none perishables and take it for recycling.
Also done on the lane divider on Route 24 where road users regularly throw trash out of their car windows.

Won't be too long before most of the native forests are gone....all because of the continued practice of particular traditional [and encroaching] farming.
    Too many aren't getting it.
