Thread: Allegedly Intoxicated British Driver Injured in Pattaya Pickup Truck Accident

A British national was injured in a pickup truck accident in Pattaya on December 1st.


At about 00:10 AM yesterday, the Sawang Boriboon Thammasathan Foundation received a report of a car accident involving a pickup truck driven by a British national. The incident occurred on a road within Soi Mab Yai Lia 53, Nongprue sub-district, Banglamung district, Chonburi province. Upon notification, the rescue teams, along with the Pattaya police, promptly went to the scene to investigate.

At the accident site, rescue teams and police found a bronze Toyota Revo 4-door pickup truck with Chonburi license plates. The vehicle had collided with and damaged a streetlight pole, causing it to bend. The truck then overturned, tilted on its side, and suffered significant damage to its front section.

Inside the vehicle, rescue teams discovered Mr. Curie L., a 60-year-old British national, injured and trapped. The rescue team used equipment to pry open the door and assist in removing him from the vehicle. Mr. Curie, who, according to the Pattaya police, was in an intoxicated state, sustained minor injuries, including a cut on his head and a split lip.


Although initial medical assistance was provided by the rescue teams, Mr. Curie reportedly declined to be transported to the hospital for an unknown reason.


Upon questioning the driver’s wife, who was not immediately identified, she told the police that they were driving back home after having some alcoholic drinks. When they arrived at the accident scene, the road was relatively dark, leading to the collision with the streetlight pole and the subsequent overturning of the vehicle.


Initially, Pattaya police had taken the driver to measure his blood alcohol level and to proceed with legal proceedings.

Darkness. Obviously, put that down as the cause. Wait a moment, it was a streetlight pole he hit. Those are particularly hard to see in the dark.

all the other streetlights on the road seem to be working fine.

Many years ago I was so pissed I couldn’t read a signpost by a junction I needed to negotiate in order to find my way home. I stopped in the middle of the road, got out and squinted at the sign and suitably informed I returned to my car and drove off into the night. I baled out in my home town by a public car park and walked the rest of the way.
Woke up next morning, roused myself for work and grabbing my car keys I walked to my usual parking spot to find it empty. Took me a good couple of minutes to remember where I put it.
