Thread: Alleged Drug Smuggler Arrested with 100,000 Amphetamine Pills in Chiang Rai

On October 23rd, 2023, the Mae Chan police and relevant officers captured an alleged drug smuggler with 100,000 pills of amphetamine in Mae Fah Luang, Chiang Rai.


The alleged suspect, who was identified only as Mr. Pongkun, 39-years-old, reportedly confessed that he collected the illicit substances from Ban Hmong Kao Lang, Mae Fah Luang, Chiang Rai, and would transport them to central Thailand.


The police officers received a report from anonymous investigative sources on drug smuggling and set up checkpoints to prevent and deter illegal activities. A targeted vehicle, a white pickup truck, was spotted and searched for illicit substances. The police officers and military dogs discovered over 50 bundles of amphetamine stashed inside the backseat and driver’s dashboard.


Consequently, the Mae Chan police officers confiscated the property in dispute and took hold of Pongkun for further legal proceedings.

I’ve often wondered about these very specific tips the police receive. I doubt MrSomchai from the local shop knows anything to phone in, so is it rival gangs? Or the criminals just sacrificing the occasional pawn?

Probably.

The rozzers used to get 1b per pill seized, maybe still do. Plus of course they get to release the pills back to gen-pop and keep the vehicle, and make it look as if they're doing their job.
