29 tonnes of frozen beef from India seized in Maha Sarakham province

Police, customs and animal quarantine officials seized about 29 tonnes of frozen beef, illegally imported from India through Laos, from a container truck on a highway in the Borabue district of the north-eastern province of Maha Sarakham on Saturday.

Acting on a tipoff that a large haul of illegally imported meat was to be smuggled from Laos between June 2nd and 5th, highway police, anti-human trafficking officers, customs and animal quarantine officials from Mukdahan and Maha Sarakham were instructed to watch for suspicious container trucks on Highway 23.

The truck from Mukdahan was spotted and the officials stopped it at a checkpoint. Upon opening the container, the officials found the frozen beef.

The truck driver, who was detained, told the police that he was ordered by his boss at Laem Chabang in Chon Buri to take the cargo container to Mukdahan and leave it near a border checkpoint on May 30th, and then wait for further instructions.

An instruction came this morning for him to collect the container and drive it to Nonthaburi province.

The driver was charged with using false official documents and smuggling illegal animal meat into the country, in violation of the Animal Epidemics and Customs Acts

Considering how tough and tasteless Thai beef is, I'm not surprised that they are smuggling it in. I'm just surprised that Indian Beef is better than Thai!

Given most of India is Hindu and cows are sacred and only used for their milk, the meat must have come rom mussies or been butchered illegally as Hindus generally leave dead cows for scavengers to eat or sometimes they ae cremated.

Maybe it was going to be ground up for dog food. It should be along with all Thai beef.

I never saw a healthy looking cow whatsoever, mostly they were just wandering around eating plastic bags with some coont following them around and when they took a dump it would be scooped up and dried and used as cooking fuel .sacred cow my ass. I would never knowingly eat indian beef.

They are a funny lot the hindus. The wife asked me to sell her chinese scooter that shes had for 3 years but rarely uses. It only had 755 kmh on the clock and was in great shape, there was plenty. Of interest in it and an indian coupled haggled me down to where i wouldnt go lower. Deal done i thought. He paid the cash but then suddenly his wife said to him rohan its saturday and we cant accept metal deliverys on saturdays . Because we are hindu .Rohan gave his head a wobble and seemed to agree. A compromise was reached. I told them i would deliver it tomorrow . And everyone was wobbling the heads. Me a little bit.
