฿6.9m cash found in house of a Ratchathewi district official after his arrest

Thai anti-corruption officials found 6.9 million baht in cash hidden in a car at the house, in Bang Bua Thong district of Nonthaburi province, of a senior official of Bangkok’s Ratchathewi district yesterday (Wednesday).

57-year-old Pramuan, revenue chief of the Ratchathewi district office, was taken into custody by National Anti-Corruption Commission (NACC) and Public Sector Anti-Corruption Commission (PACC) officials at a hotel in Nonthaburi, where he had an appointment with a businessman, allegedly to receive a 3.2 million baht bribe in exchange for dropping a case in which the businessman being pursued for about 40 million baht in unpaid taxes.

Armed with a search warrant, the officials went to Pramuan’s house in Bang Bua Thong to look for more evidence. They found the cash hidden in his wife’s Toyota Fortuner, parked in the compound.

Anti-corruption officials believe, however, that more officials might be involved in the alleged corruption, as they found a notebook containing a number of names.

Pramuan has already been transferred from his job as the revenue chief and a disciplinary committee has been set up, at the order of Bangkok Governor Chadchart Sittipunt, to investigate the case.

The revenue official is currently free on 400,000 baht bail.

Just another day in a corrupted society without any ethics, functioning rule of law and no fourth estate to hold them to account.
Shitty society, shitty country, shitty people.
