There are not twenty effin roadside metres in the depths of rural Isan that are free of plastic waste. Mostly food packaging. It is frankly shocking.
I am carless today and I'm not walking 3km to the village in this heat so I sent out for noodles. A plastic bag of noodles and a plastic bag of soup. With dry chilli in a plastic bag and sugar in a plastic bag and vinegar in a plastic bag and disposable chopsticks (bamboo - hurrah!) wrapped in a plastic packet (boo!) Did I mention the vegetables, in a plastic bag? All of these things were thoughtfully delivered together, in a larger plastic bag. There seems no hope for us.
