as I get older these things just make me sadder.
I can't imagine what it must do to those that have lost their kids and loved ones.

Just woke up to messages praying my kids are ok and went straight to the news to see what’s going on in a bit of a panic. Luckily nowhere near my kids but only 30km from where I am working right now.
Brutal, tragic and so very, very sad.
Lang may yer lum reek...
Latest count is 36 dead and 8 in hospital.
The gf has a work colleague whose cousin works at that childcare centre. She survived by running away and hiding in the forest.
I'd say he's pretty foked now for the ol' reincarnation.
Shiiit...The place is getting like America
Very shocked, disgusted and upset, words cannot describe. My ex wife and her family live a couple of villages over and were told to hide in their houses. Thankfully they are all ok but deeply disturbed by what just happened. Many people in her village knew many of the victims. My daughter is totally distraught as this area holds a special happy place in her heart filled with many wonderful memories of the farms, family and traditions. I myself having visited this area for many weddings, funerals and family gatherings and have nothing but my deepest sorrow for these people, who, are some of the kindest most down to earth people you will meet in Thailand. Utterly devastated.
Humanity can be wicked beyond comprehension.
RIP to all the stolen souls. May they find peace in a better world.
One should listen twice as much as one speaks
36 kids and their minders. it doesnt even bear thinking about. how can such a thing happen.
Panya Khamrab, 34, reportedly went on a shooting rampage at a children’s development centre in the province’s Na Wang district, leaving 36 people dead and 12 others injured, eight of whom are in a serious condition.
Twenty-four young children were among the dead, in addition to 12 adults.
Panya was dismissed from the police force in January after he was arrested in possession of “yaa baa” methamphetamine pills. Earlier, he had been reprimanded by his supervisors for repeated abuse of the illicit drug.
He admitted to having abused “yaa baa” for a long time and sometimes had “hundreds of pills” in his possession.
He joined the Royal Thai Police in May 2012 and was moved to the Na Wang Police Station in Nong Bua Lamphu province in June 2019. He worked there until his dismissal from the police force.
Former colleagues blamed his drug abuse for his frequent mood swings, which led to him being shunned in the work place. He often disobeyed his supervisors, some ex-colleagues said.
Once Panya drew his pistol to show his displeasure at a bank manager who complained after he was found sleeping in a police car parked outside the bank instead of guarding officials stocking banknotes in ATMs.
A year ago, he reportedly began quarrelling with his wife and was reportedly involved in a relationship with a karaoke worker named Ying, whose former boyfriend was a suspected drug dealer.
His neighbours at the police housing complained about Panya’s noisy behaviour while partying at night. In July last year, he verbally and physically attacked a neighbour who confronted him about the noise. The incident led to a reprimand for Panya and he was placed on parole.
Panya once confessed to his superintendent at the police station that he began abusing drugs while studying at a secondary school. He reportedly promised his boss not to get involved with drugs again but failed to keep his word.
the nation
in spite of the above mentioned incidents, (and in other newspapers his colleagues have stated that because of his irrational temper and well known propensity for violence they avoided him whenever possible), just why he remained in the police force is a mystery, but thailand is no stranger to rampaging armed, psychotic, barely educated and out of control police officers.
and there must be many more of them, high on drugs, cuckolded by their wives, overtaken by jealousy, recently been ignored for promotion, heavily in debt and with their lives in total disarray, their synapses and neurones fizzing and sparking away uncontrollably like an upcountry domestic thai fuse box as they struggle to understand the tsunami of anxiety, apprehension, anger and confusion that envelopes them 24 hours a day until the point of no return is reached. out there with a loaded gun, manning the traffic lights or sitting in his police box until some unlucky moped rider without a helmet or a local scrote who looks at him the wrong way is challenged, an argument develops and all that pent up fury and rage is detonated.
best to give each and every thai cop a very wide berth. regular chickenheads are harmless enough, but a chickenhead with a gun is very dangerous.

Plenty of yaa baa addicts in NE Thailand and many are cops. They need to have a crack down instead of turning a blind eye .
I know one runner/ dealer who has caused mayhem in a neighbouring village. Several locals have complained to the police but when they come round they just ask for money to keep quiet.
There is one reason then
And another.
His colleagues should have put him behind bars and in front of a judge.
But he probably knew too much.
When I heard about this on the danish radio, I thought his madness was due to a massive loss of face.
Why a nursery ?
He was in front of a judge in the morning. Sentence was due Friday. Why was he allowed free during that time?
That such a worthless, thuggish degenerate could have remained in uniform for as long as he did as a policeman while manifestly addicted to drugs and prone to uncontrolled violence to a degree that alienated him from his colleagues, is simply just more evidence of the moral bankruptcy that pervades this wretched country and its rotten society.
Quite simply the place is beyond redemption and its people hostages to the fortune of their masters seemingly united in their incompetence and crony politics of avarice and corruption.
Shitty society, shitty government, shitty country.
^ He was armed and well prepared to kill.
The first thing I think of, after reading about this tragedy, is my own children and how much I love them and what I would feel like if something like this happened to them.
So many lives lost and heartache which will last forever.
So sad.
Fucking meth head!
Horrendous story.
RIP to his victims.
Some here are saying its a Thai thing, their police, drugs et al. Really its about access to weapons by a disaffected individual who has slipped through a system which should have picked him up before he got to the point he did.
This situation is not unique to Thailand and its Police, the real shame is that nothing will change after the outrage has died down and nothing will prevent another armed employee taking their personal failure out on those innocents around them.
RIP and a heartfelt condolence to the many family and friends who've lost loved ones.
Mass shootings are pretty rife in Thailand though.
yeah i hear them every week, 30, 40 50 .....silly comment
Mass shooting happen here, but I was more so referring to gun crimes/deaths.
For example:
THAILAND HAS A HIGHER RATE OF GUN-RELATED DEATHS THAN THE US
12-01-2021 Variety News
Thailand has the highest rate of gun-related deaths in Asia, and twice as many as the United States, according to new data.
A study conducted by academics at the University of Washington’s Institute for Health and Metric Evaluation shows that in 2013 there were 7.48 deaths by shooting per 100,000 people in Thailand. Next in line in Asia was the Philippines, with 4.64 fatalities per 100,000. In the same period, the US had 3.55 gun-related deaths per 100,000 people.
Elsewhere in Asia, the study shows Sri Lanka had a rate of 2.79, Cambodia 1.58, and Myanmar 1.10. The University’s figures show gun death rates are close to nil in Japan and Singapore, and Global Health and Epidemiology researcher Dr Ali Mokdad attributes this in part to increased educational opportunities for the young men often at the forefront of gun crime.
Official Thai statistics suggest that around one in ten people in the country owns a gun, a total of over six million. But these figures are based on the number of licences issued for the legal ownership of the weapons, and Australian academics put the real figure – including black-market guns, among them those used in the long-running southern insurgency – at closer to 10 million. General ownership remains prevalent despite occasional gun amnesties launched by authorities in recent years.
Gun ownership has been legal in Thailand since 1947, including for the purposes of self-defence and protection of property against intruders, which legal experts say are not considered crimes under Thai law. Licences are said to be relatively easy to come by, despite legally mandated background checks and a minimum age requirement.

Accuracy. according to the latest police report
NONG BUA LAMPHU — A 34-year-old former police officer opened fire Thursday at a childcare center in the northeastern province, killing at least 37 people, mostly children, police said.
Police identified the assailant as a former member of the force, Panya Kamrap, who was fired earlier this year of drug-related offenses. At least 37 people were killed in what appeared to be the country’s worst mass shooting in modern history, while another 12 people were wounded, according to the latest police report. The motive remains unclear.
Police said the man entered Uthai Sawan sub-district office in the afternoon and killed two people there. He then proceeded to the nearby childcare center and killed 22 children and two teachers before going on a rampage that left another 4 people dead. After arriving home, he set his car on fire, killed his wife and his children before turning the gun on himself.
Another five victims died at a hospital.
In a statement, PM Prayut Chan-o-cha said he has instructed all relevant agencies to assist the victims and their families. The prime minister will travel to Nong Bua Lamphu province to meet with families of the victims on Friday.
“I would like to express my deepest sorrow and condolences to the families of the dead and injured,” Prayut said. “I have ordered the police commissioner to take immediate action and all the relevant agencies to alleviate those who are affected by this incident.”
National police commissioner Damrongsak Kittiprapat apologized on behalf of his force.
“We believe the assailant targeted the childcare center as it is near his home, though we still need to investigate the real motive,” Pol. Gen. Damrongsak said. “I would like to apologize for what happened and will take this incident as a lesson to improve our tactics and prevent it from happening again.”
The man had been facing trial on a drug charge and had been in court in the hours before the shooting, regional police spokesman Paisan Luesomboon said. He was due to stand trial for possession of methamphetamine on Friday.
Keep your friends close and your enemies closer.
Aww, I'm just seeing this now. This makes me so angry! I feel so bad for the families involved. It isn't right losing a child before yourself as an adult.
It makes me angry just like when I hear all the mass school shootings that keep happening in the USA and nothing is ever changed to prevent them.
RIP angels!
