The father of a teen motorcyclist killed in a road accident involving a police colonel has complained to the Crime Suppression Division (CSD) that the officer himself pocketed 1.4 million baht compensation he was due.

Somkid Laongnual was accompanied by lawyer Atchariya Ruangrattanapong of the Crime Victims Assistance Club when he filed his complaint with the CSD on Monday.

He alleged that Nong Prue police chief Pol Col Thawatchai Norasingh misappropriated about 1.4 million baht compensation he was supposed to be paid for the death for his son, Prinya.

Prinya, 19, was killed when his motorcycle and a car driven by Pol Col Thawatchai collided on the night of Dec 27 last year in Kanchanaburi province. Pol Col Thawatchai was police chief in Nong Prue district.

Mr Somkid alleged that Pol Col Thawatchai began negotiating about a month after the accident over the money to be paid for the loss of his son.

Mr Somkid alleged to reporters on Monday he was told to settle the case and accept 100,000 baht or get nothing.

This came with conditions - that Mr Somkid open a new bank account to receive the compenation money and authorise Pol Col Thawatchai to act on his behalf. The account was to receive money from an insurance company as well as compensation under the Road Accident Victims Protection Act.

Mr Somkid learned later that he was supposed to receive 1.5 million baht in total instead of only 100,000 baht, but he was afraid of registering a fraud complaint with police in Kanchanaburi province, where Pol Col Thawatchai was a senior officer.

The case came to light on Friday when Mr Somkid decided to post a message asking for justice on his Facebook account.

"I am deeply saddened by the loss of my son, who cannot be replaced by money. And then I was cheated by this police officer," he wrote.

A day later, Kanchanaburi police chief Pol Maj Gen Pairote Khumphai transferred Pol Col Thawatchai from Nong Prue station chief to the provincial police head office, to clear the way for an investigation into the case.

Lawyer Atchariya accused Pol Col Thawatchai of intentionally attempting to hide all information so that he could misappropriate the benefits due the father of the victim.

Pol Col Thawatchai has not reacted to the accusation.

Pol Lt Col Panupong Chantrakul of the CSD said investigators woud go through all evidence submitted by Mr Somkid and then decide whether to accept the case for further action.

Kanchanaburi Police are not noted for their independent investigation of errant police officers of even NCO rank never mind a colonel. If it were not for the diligence of Andrew Drummond Sgt. Wisetsingh would have evaded responsibility for the murders of Arscott and Lloyd but notwithstanding his life sentences he was transferred from Bangkok to his local prison and with the passage of time encompassing several pardon cycles he is probably out now anyway.

Justice, like truth, is negotiable in this benighted country.

The Bangkok Civil Court has mandated Police Lance Corporal Norawich Buadok to compensate the family of Dr Waraluck Supawatjariyakul, an eye doctor fatally struck by his motorcycle at a pedestrian crossing in 2022, with 27.3 million baht.


The ruling comes after Dr Waraluck’s parents sought damages from both Norawich and the Royal Thai Police (RTP), attributing the responsibility for her death to the officer’s negligence and the lack of traffic law enforcement by the police. Despite the lawsuit’s dismissal against the Royal Thai Police as an entity, the court acknowledged Norawich’s sole responsibility in the incident.


The compensation includes funeral costs and future loss of income, reflecting the parents’ lifespan and the potential earnings of Dr Waraluck. Additionally, Norawich is required to pay a 5% annual interest on the compensation amounts from the incident date until full payment is made.


The decision also follows an appeal that resulted in the extension of Norawich’s prison sentence to over ten years. The RTP has stated that Norawich will be dismissed from service if the Supreme Court upholds the conviction.

Depends if he managed to put everything in someone else's name, otherwise court ordered seizure of assets I would assume.
