Thread: Ostrich caught at mall after escaping farm and running loose on Chonburi roads

An escaped ostrich was caught after running loose on local roads in the Mueang Chonburi District for two hours yesterday causing traffic delays and bemused looks from area residents.

The Don Hualor Police were notified about the escaped ostrich yesterday afternoon (September 1st) in the Don Hualor sub-district.


Rescue workers, staffers from the Don Hualor Municipality, and police rushed to the scene and found a two meter tall ostrich running on a local road. The ostrich had caused a traffic backup for about one kilometer.


The ostrich finally ran into a parking area at a local shopping mall. It took more than two hours for law enforcement to catch the escaped ostrich.

Mr. Boonkong Leedokmai, a farm care taker, arrived at the shopping mall after being informed by police that one of his ostriches had escaped.


Boonkong told Don Hualor police, “The ostrich lives at a farm nearby. Someone might have left the farm door open by accident leading to the incident.”


The ostrich was taken back to the farm unharmed. Meanwhile, on social media, many Thai residents joked the ostrich was simply excited that malls were allowed to reopen in Chonburi for the first time in over a month due to Covid-19 regulations.
