Taliban asked Russia to remove movement from sanctions lists
MOSCOW (Agencies): The Taliban are discussing with the Russian side the issue of lifting the sanctions on the movement, Suheil Shahin, a spokesman for the movement’s political office in Doha , told RIA Novosti following a visit to Moscow.
The delegation of the movement visited the Russian Federation on July 8-9, held a meeting with the special representative of the President of the Russian Federation for Afghanistan, director of the second depa-rtment of Asia of the Russ-ian Foreign Ministry Zamir Kabulov. “We asked them (the Russian authorities) to be removed from the (UN Security Council) sanctions list,” Shahin said.
Earlier, the movement said that the agreement reached in 2020 between the Taliban and the United States implies their exclusion from all “black lists” and Washington is allegedly working on this.
Meanwhile, the special representative of the President of the Russian Federation for Afghanistan Zamir previously told RIA Novosti that there are no c-onditions for excluding the Taliban from the sanctions lists. According to him, the launch of the procedure can take place only when meaningful negotiations begin between the Afghan parties – with the approval of a clear and precise agenda.

Afghanistan on brink of humanitarian crisis says UN refugee agency
More Afghans are likely to flee their homes due to escalating violence, the UN refugee agency warned on Tuesday, as the Taliban take control of more territory in response to the withdrawal of US-led foreign forces.
"Afghanistan is on the brink of another humanitarian crisis. This can be avoided. This should be avoided," Babar Baloch, spokesman of the UN High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), told a Geneva news briefing.
"A failure to reach a peace agreement in Afghanistan and stem the current violence will lead to further displacement within the country, as well as to neighbouring countries and beyond."
The UNHCR said an estimated 270,000 Afghans had been newly displaced inside the country since January, bringing the total population forced from their homes to more than 3.5 million.
Those forced to flee blamed the security situation, incidents of extortion by non-state armed groups, and improvised explosive devices (IEDs) on major roads, as well as a loss of income and interruptions to social services, Baloch said.
The number of civilian casualties has risen by 29% during the first quarter compared with 2020, the UNHCR said, citing figures from the UN Assistance Mission in Afghanistan.
"We urge the international community to step up support to the government and people of Afghanistan and its neighbours at this critical moment," Baloch said.
The US general leading the war in Afghanistan, Austin Miller, relinquished command at a ceremony in the capital, Kabul, on Monday and quietly left the country, a symbolic end to America's longest conflict.
US President Joe Biden has acknowledged that Afghanistan's future was far from certain but said the Afghan people must decide their own fate.

‘Don’t Shoot!’: Brutal Video Shows Taliban Executing 22 Unarmed Afghan Commandos
A shocking video shows Taliban fighters brutally executing 22 unarmed Afghan commandos as they held their hands up in surrender.
CNN reports that the massacre of the Afghan Special Forces unit took place on June 16 near Afghanistan’s border with Turkmenistan.
The video shows Taliban fighters screaming “Surrender, commandos! Surrender!” as unarmed soldiers emerge from a building.
Then the men are sprayed with bullets as the Taliban fighters shout “Allahu Akhbar!” and a bystander can be heard pleading:
“Don’t shoot them, don’t shoot them, I beg you!”
As the video ends, one voice can be heard saying: “Take everything off them.”
The Red Cross confirmed to CNN that 22 commandos were killed, but the Taliban claimed the videos were staged by the government.

How surprising, I thought they were a peaceful people.
After spending 20 years, 2 trillion dollars and the lives of 2300 Americans with little to show for it the withdrawal more than makes sense.
It is going to be messy but far past time to let the Afghans decide how and who will run the nation. US will be critized for leaving and critized for staying so might as well get the fuck out and save bucks and American lives.
The US role going forward should, through diplomacy with other nations, help Afganistan become a functioning nation even if not one which reflects a "western" style democracy.
Biden is doing the right thing in spite of the predictable criticizm!

Russia tells ‘hypocritical’ Kabul to negotiate with Taliban
MOSCOW: The Kremlin’s most senior Afghanistan official accused the Afghanistan government of hypocrisy on Wednesday and said it needed to start proper negotiations with the Taliban about the country’s future before it was too late.
Zamir Kabulov, President Vladimir Putin’s special representative on Afghanistan, issued the warning ahead of talks about the Afghan crisis in Tajikistan where foreign ministers from the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation were meeting.
Kabulov, in an interview with Russia’s RIA news agency, said that while the Afghan government paid lip service to the idea of talks it was not doing enough to make them happen.
“It’s hypocrisy. It’s an attempt to close their eyes to the reality which exists and these are empty words,” Kabulov told RIA when talking about the Afghan’s government’s stance on negotiations with the Taliban.
“We need deeds.”
The only way out of the current crisis which has seen the Taliban make military gains on the back of an exit by US and NATO forces was for all sides to sit down together at the negotiating table in Kabul, Kabulov was cited as saying.
He said that Russia and other regional powers favoured a transitional government in Afghanistan.
A Taliban delegation in Moscow last week said that the group controlled more than 85 percent of territory in Afghanistan — an assertion dismissed by the government — and told Russia it would not let the country be used as a platform to attack others.

Biden directs evacuation flights for Afghan interpreters to begin late July
President Joe Biden has directed evacuation flights for Afghan interpreters and other nationals who helped the U.S. military during the 20-year conflict to begin late July, the White House announced on Wednesday.
Afghan nationals in the pipeline for special immigrant visas and their families will wait in one or more locations outside of Afghanistan while the State Department finishes processing their paperwork to enter the United States, White House press secretary Jen Psaki told reporters.
Psaki declined to provide details about where the Afghans are going or how many applicants are eligible for the relocation flights. However, the administration is looking at using military bases, both abroad and in the continental United States, to temporarily host those eligible, Pentagon spokesperson John Kirby confirmed Wednesday.
The Biden administration is in talks with the government of Uzbekistan to potentially host the applicants, but no plans have been finalized, according to a congressional source briefed on the subject. However, Tajikistan, another option the administration had been exploring, is "a no-go," the person said.
A State Department spokesperson said the administration is discussing its options with a number of countries "who share our concerns," but declined to share additional details.
The military has so far not been asked to provide transportation for the eligible Afghans, who in many cases face perilous journeys from their homes across the country to Kabul for the relocation flights, Kirby said. In addition to helping the State Department identify possible locations, the Pentagon will also continue to identify additional Afghans who might be eligible for special visas, he said.
The news comes less than a week after Biden announced that the United States would begin relocation flights for the thousands of Afghans this month, as the U.S. military approaches the end of the Afghanistan drawdown. U.S. Central Command said this week that the withdrawal is 95 percent complete.
Afghan interpreters and translators are under threat by the Taliban for aiding U.S. forces over the past 20 years.
In a sign that the administration is still in discussion with central Asian countries to potentially host eligible Afghans, Ambassador Tracey Jacobson, a three-time chief of mission in Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Kosovo, is leading the State Department unit responsible for the effort, dubbed "Operation Allies Refuge."
The group also includes representatives from the Departments of Defense and Homeland Security. Russ Travers, the deputy homeland security adviser and former head of the National Counterterrorism Center, is coordinating the effort across agencies.
A U.S. delegation will travel to Uzbekistan this week to meet with leaders across central Asia, the White House announced earlier on Wednesday. Zalmay Khalilzad, the U.S. special representative for Afghanistan reconciliation, will be among the delegation.

Excellent, awaiting the rest of the "liberators" announcing similar statements.
However, the headline "promise", has its fine print:
Not such good "news".
OZ has access to some empty islands, I believe used as detention camps, have they been added to the list?
Gaza, Iraq, Syria, Diego Garcia ....
These "camps" can become never ending jails.
Possibly "re-education" will be required in them, background investigation/interrogation/water boa...ing performed, to ensure the evacuated are trustworthy ...., prior to landing in the "Promised Homeland".
So many questions fro President Joe Biden, I'm sure the WH press will get the answers.
Ah:
Appears that rather than planning and already having secured solutions available to meet this situation, the announcement to:
"Ambassador Tracey Jacobson, a three-time chief of mission in Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Kosovo"
possibly a week ago, is the firstsheknew about it.
Surely planning/solutions were determined, prior to the Taliban/ameristan agreement being discussed, agreed and signed on Doha, some months/years ago
.

Actually they are probably more likely to stick to an agreement than the Americans.

For those who can't recall this is a good relatively unbiased vid. A couple years old but does a good job pointing out how we got what we have today.
A summary for Harry. Any foreign nation that puts military in Afghanistan is going to get an ass kicking. Don't go there!
