Restaurant staffers caught on video appearing to dump waste on Koh Larn beach

The Pattaya City Mayor told local Pattaya press today that he is taking legal action against a restaurant operator after their employees appeared to have dumped waste on a beach at Koh Larn, which was caught on video by a concerned citizen.

A video clip went viral on Thai social media yesterday (March 7th), causing outrage and shock from many local residents. The video appears to show four male staff members of a restaurant on Koh Larn dumping a trash can of various waste products into the ocean.

The Pattaya City Mayor Sonthaya Khunplume told the press this morning (March 8th) at City Hall, “We have already been informed about the clip and are extremely disappointed by the incident.”

“We are investigating the issue and have already identified the restaurant where the four men in the video appear to be employed.” The Mayor continued.

“We (Pattaya City Hall) are seeking legal action against the individuals responsible for this act that harms the local environment and our community,” Sonthaya stated.

“The Chonburi Public Health Office is now informing other business operators on Koh Larn about the environmental laws and will be conducting stringent inspections on restaurants and venues on the island.” The Mayor concluded.

The name of the restaurant under investigation and the names of the two alleged staff members were not given to the local press.

Thailand is a dump with some bits kept clean for appearances sake.

Hypocrisy, incompetence, irresponsibility, laziness, stupidity, greed ......all cultural hallmarks.

Ridiculous. Of course they have an idea of what pollution is.

They just do not give a crap about it, as in general it is someone else's problem.

Aside from doing something as filthy as that in the first place, one wonders at the lack of brains doing this during the day when people are around

My missus went to Bang Saen beach the other week, with our kids, and there was so much rubbish in the water they wouldn't go in the sea.

^ I've been several times to Bang Saen, I've never set foot in the sea there...too much garbage, and there's also the pollution you can't see...from what I've heard from my (Thai) friends who live there the water is unclean because of sewage water.

They told me that if I want to swim in the sea I had to go to Koh Si Chang or Koh Larn, and more specifically on the good sides of both islands to get cleaner waters.
