Police Officers Jailed for Extortion and Selling Methamphetamine

Seven police officers have each been jailed for eight years and fined 800,000 baht for extorting money from a drug dealer in southern Thailand’s Yala. They were also allegedly selling seized methamphetamines to local youths.

The Yala provincial court passed sentence on the seven men on Wednesday, Thai media reported.

The seven are: Pol Snr Sgt Maj Jirasak Nooplod, Pol Snr Sgt Maj Sitthapak Chandaeng, Pol Sgt Siroj Jaikaewthi, Pol Sgt Amphol Ngu-tul, Pol Sgt Narongdet Shinpakdi, Pol Cpl Thongchai Nurak and Pol Cpl Nathasorn Nuanmai.

They were members of Yala police station’s special operations unit.

They were charged following a complaint that on Dec 21 they had demanded 100,000 baht from a drug dealer caught with 200 meth pills.

The dealer had given them 50,000 baht as a down payment. The officers seized the drugs. They kept some for their own use, but sold most of them to local youths.

Pol Maj Gen Prabphol Meemongkhol, told the Bangkok Post the case had drawn a lot of public attention in Yala and nearby provinces.

They had extorted money and become involved in the drug trade. By their actions, the seven men had tarnished the reputation of the Royal Thai Police force.

So selling a category 1 narcotic only gets you eight years in stir if you are the filth.

I presume they immediately appealed and were then released on bail.

That's well out of order, when cops are caught red handed they should be moved sideways not jailed.

But to be fair, they deserve jail and worse if they were freelancing and pocketed the extorted money instead of delivering it where they should.

50,000 baht and 200 meth pills between 7 corrupt coppers.

    Hardly big time crooks.

Didn't the Brit son of the Lonestar restaurant owner in Pattaya get something like 60 years for selling a few E's to the club revellers.

This country is truly quite sickening in its bias.

I think it was Spencer Kimball who claimed that profanity is the effort of a feeble brain to express itself forcibly, and in this case the insult even more laughble as you have willfully or ignorantly missed the meaning of the post. Perhaps I can break it down into slightly more simple language.

A bully could extort a child's $5 lunch money and it would still be extortion, a swamp monkey would sell one pill and it will still be supply of a prohibited drug. The surprise I was expressing was that 7 corrput coppers sharing the proceeds of 50K baht and a couple hundred bills verus the danger 8 years in jail does not equal risk vs reward. bargirls on soi cowboy have run bigger operations of extoration and suply than these monkeys.

And what exactly the fuck do you think this is, you twit?
