Despite the fact that none of the vaccines offer 100% efficacy, this is another dent in the reputation of the shitty chinky ones.

Nakhon Ratchasima: The provincial health office reported two cases of the Delta Covid-19 variant in this northeastern province even though both of the infectees had been fully vaccinated with the Chinese Sinovac jab.

Dr Narinrat Pichayakhamin, chief of the public health office, said the two cases of the Delta variant, originally detected in India, were female residents of Pak Chong district, aged 19 and 30.

The 19-year-old had been in contact with a Covid-19 patient, a hired driver, on June 14 when they travelled to Bangkok to deliver goods. She took a Covid-19 test on Wednesday after learning the driver had tested positive and the results showed she had contracted the Delta variant. Her close contacts were put under quarantine and tested.

The 30-year-old woman, a flea market vendor, had a high fever on June 16 and lost her sense of smell and taste a few days later. She was tested on Tuesday and the results also showed she was infected with the Delta strain.

Dr Narinrat said both patients had received two doses of Sinovac vaccine, adding that earlier a fully vaccinated police colonel at Pak Thong Chai police station had been infected with Covid-19.

I reckon this one has a Putin 3G chip in it.

Many Russians are complaining that the COVID-19 vaccine they signed up to get was swapped for another without their knowledge. Some only found out when they asked about it. They were promised the domestically produced Sputnik V, but instead got a drug called EpiVacCorona produced by the Vector research center in the country's Novosibirsk region. Some scientists have questioned the effectiveness of "EpiVac" and people don't understand why they're being deceived over which vaccine they'll get.

What happens when Delta meets Lambda?

Coronavirus lambda variant spreads across Latin America

The WHO classified C.37 as a "variant of interest" after it appeared in a number of countries simultaneously. In Peru, where the lambda variant was identified in August, it now accounts for 82% of new infections.

Covid-19 patients suffering only mild symptoms might have to self-care at home under a close monitoring system set up by medical staff, according to Deputy Public Health Minister Satit Pitutacha.
    Uh huh.

Lack of cooperation is thwarting efforts to control the increasing number of Covid-19 clusters in Bangkok, a senior government spokeswoman said on Friday.

    <snip>

"Camps were closed but workers sneaked out to markets and communities, and spread the disease.” When one workers’ camp was closed, they just moved to other camps. As a result, Covid-19 clusters were increasing in Bangkok, the spokeswoman said.
    Uh huh.

EpiVacCorona vaccine effective against Delta and Delta Plus COVID variants
The Delta coronavirus strain was first detected in India in October 2020

    © Kirill Kukhmar/TASS
SOCHI, June 24. /TASS/. The EpiVacCorona vaccine is effective against all dangerous mutations of the novel coronavirus, including the Delta and Delta Plus strains, head of the Vector State Research Center of Virology and Biotechnology Rinat Maksyutov said on Thursday.

"All mutations of concern — Alfa, Beta, Gamma, Delta and Delta Plus do not penetrate the structure of the selected peptide," he said during the third International Conference "Global Biosecurity Challenges: Problems and Solutions."

Maksyutov explained that this peptide forms the basis of the EpiVacCorona vaccine, so it is resistant to changes.

On Wednesday, the NDTV channel informed, citing medical sources, that there are about 40 people in India infected with the new coronavirus strain named Delta Plus.

Russia's second vaccine '100% effective', watchdog tells media
    By Reuters Staff

MOSCOW (Reuters) - A candidate COVID-19 vaccine known as EpiVacCorona, Russia’s second to be registered, proved “100% effective” in early-stage trials, Russian consumer health watchdog Rospotrebnadzor has told local media.

The data, based on Phase I and II trials, were released before the start of a larger Phase III trial which would normally involve thousands of participants and a placebo group as a comparison.

“The effectiveness of the vaccine is made up of its immunological effectiveness and preventative effectiveness,” the TASS news agency reported, citing Rospotrebnadzor.

“According to results of the first and second phases of clinical trials, the immunological effectiveness of the EpiVacCorona vaccine is 100%.”

The Phase I and II studies tested the safety, side-effects and immunogenicity of the potential vaccine in 100 people aged 18-60, according to the state trials register.

Typically early-stage vaccine tests on humans are based on blood readings showing an immune response in participants who have not been exposed to the virus, while the results of larger late-stage trials are based on actual infections suffered by participants in their normal lives.

Russia began testing EpiVacCorona, which is being developed by Siberia’s Vector Institute, in November.

    There's a surprise.

HELSINKI (AP) — Finnish health authorities have detected a spike in coronavirus cases that has been traced to soccer fans returning from neighboring Russia following European Championship matches in St. Petersburg.

The Finnish Institute for Health and Welfare on Saturday urged “all passengers who have traveled from St. Petersburg to Finland by any bus company to apply for a coronavirus test.”

“Any bus or minibus may have been exposed,” the institute said.

Finland played two of its Euro 2020 group games in St. Petersburg, facing Russia on June 16 and Belgium on Monday. At least 2,000 Finns are estimated to have traveled to the city for those matches.

World Health Organization Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said Friday that the delta variant of the novel coronavirus has been identified in at least 85 countries and “is the most transmissible of the variants identified so far . . . and is spreading rapidly among unvaccinated populations.” He also said, “As some countries ease public health and social measures, we are starting to see increases in transmission around the world.”

“It’s quite simple: more transmission, more variants. Less transmission, less variants,” the WHO chief said. “That makes it even more urgent that we use all the tools at our disposal to prevent transmission: the tailored and consistent use of public health and social measures, in combination with equitable vaccination.

Meanwhile, health officials say a new strain of the delta variant of the coronavirus, first identified in India, has emerged in almost a dozen countries, including India, the United States, and the U.K. The new variant has been dubbed Delta Plus. Authorities fear Delta Plus may be even more contagious the delta variant. Scientists are just beginning to study the new strain.

Doctors and officials in the Russian cities of Moscow and St. Petersburg are now openly talking about a third wave of coronavirus infections. Tighter restrictions are being introduced in several regions of the country, vaccination is being made mandatory, and some hospitals are once again being equipped to exclusively handle COVID-19 patients.

Denis Protsenko, the chief physician at Moscow's main hospital for COVID-19 patients, told Russian media that he believes the third wave, which has now engulfed Moscow and St. Petersburg, would reach other regions of Russia by July. He said there were more than 400 patients in the intensive care unit at his hospital, and 200 people were arriving for treatment every day.

"That's more than on peak days during the first two waves," Protsenko said. "We've really taken it far too easy when it comes to attitudes toward wearing masks and maintaining social distancing — basically, everything that we did for a whole year." He said people had grown weary of precautionary measures. That combination triggered this third wave, he said.

Though patients' symptoms haven't changed significantly from the previous waves, Protsenko said,
doctors are noticing a shorter incubation period for the virus, with initial symptoms appearing four to five days after infection on average, and not seven to nine days as seen previously.

So now you can't trust the Russian vaccines OR their Vaccination certificates.

Watching as Russia's drive to vaccinate its citizens against coronavirus stumbled earlier this year, Sergei had a hunch that authorities would eventually make inoculations mandatory.
But the 30-something in the southern Krasnodar region had no plans of getting a jab.
So he found a dealer online hawking fake vaccine certificates, sent his personal details over encrypted messenger Telegram and transferred 15,000 rubles ($200, 175 euros).
Three weeks later, Sergei logged onto Russia's government services portal to find a certificate showing he had received both doses of the country's homegrown Sputnik V vaccine — without ever having been jabbed.

    <snip>

The black market is only one way to get around vaccinating, and there are other "much simpler" methods, said Brand.

"People just go to the clinic and give a certain nurse money" to dispose of vaccine doses and make a false registration, he said.

The method — so widespread in Russia that it is known as "jab down the drain" — has been used for years by nurses with mothers hesitant to vaccinate their children, Brand said.

"With Covid, I think it's happening en masse," he said.

New restrictions centred around Bangkok have been announced in a bid to tackle the country's worst coronavirus outbreak.

The new measures, which will be implemented for 30 days from Monday, include a ban on restaurant dine-ins in Bangkok and five surrounding provinces of Nonthaburi, Pathum Thani, Samut Praka, Samut Sakhon and Nakhon Pathom, according to a document published in the Royal Gazette on Saturday night.

Shopping malls in Bangkok and the five provinces must be closed by 9pm, and parties or celebrations, or activities involving a gathering of more than 20 people will be banned for the same duration, the document said.

It also said construction sites in the six areas will be shut down and workers' camps will be sealed off to contain clusters. The order followed the emergence of more clusters in construction camps in the capital, which has 575 such sites housing about 81,000 workers.

This guy should be promoted. Rather than the usual "We promise that"... he has the honesty to say "We do hope"....

A military camp in the capital is being turned into a field hospital for the increasing number of Covid-19 patients in critical condition and will be ready to accept patients by Friday as major hospitals struggle with overcrowded intensive care units (ICU).

Responding to Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha's order to find more beds for patients in Bangkok, the Ministry of Public Health has joined hands a number of private hospitals, the military, and the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) to set up a field hospital for critical patients at the Laksi district's 11th Military Circle.

The executive team on Saturday made a site visit to assess its readiness for use as a temporary critical care unit.

Bangkok governor Pol Lt Gen Aswin Khwanmuang said the military camp is ideal for modification as it already has 186 beds that can be used for seriously ill patients, including 58 beds that are suitable for use in ICU care.

He added that areas at the camp that have already been used to house patients with mild infections will be augmented with a better electrical system and computer network, together with improved wastewater disposal to bring into line with regulations governing the care of more critical cases.

    "
We do hope that everything will be complete by next week and the facility will be ready to welcome the patients on July 2," he said.

SARS-CoV-2 Delta VOC in Scotland: demographics, risk of hospital admission, and vaccine effectiveness

    Published:June 14, 2021DOI:Redirecting

"In summary, we show that the Delta VOC in Scotland was found mainly in younger, more affluent groups.

(Due to ignoring lockdown, non-mask wearing ....?)

Risk of COVID-19 hospital admission was approximately doubled in those with the Delta VOC when compared to the Alpha VOC, with risk of admission particularly increased in those with five or more relevant comorbidities.

Both the Oxford–AstraZeneca and Pfizer–BioNTech COVID-19 vaccines were effective in reducing the risk of SARS-CoV-2 infection and COVID-19 hospitalisation in people with the Delta VOC, but these effects on infection appeared to be diminished when compared to those with the Alpha VOC.

We had insufficient numbers of hospital admissions to compare between vaccines in this respect.

The Oxford–AstraZeneca vaccine appeared less effective than the Pfizer–BioNTech vaccine in preventing SARS-CoV-2 infection in those with the Delta VOC.

Given the observational nature of these data, estimates of vaccine effectiveness need to be interpreted with caution."

The First Minister released a statement about this research on 15 June 2021.

Scotland’s First Minister Statement in the Scottish Parliament | BBC News Scotland

Ms Sturgeon says the early data is encouraging, but further analysis is needed to understand the Delta variant.

The first minister says a study published by Edinburgh University yesterday was "instructive".

It suggested that the Delta variant is associated with a higher risk of hospitalisation - but on the other hand, it shows double vaccination provides a high level of protection.

“There is extremely strong protection now with two doses of vaccine”, the First Minister says.

The US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention told CNN Friday that the agency is tracking the Delta coronavirus variant, among others -- and warned that there is a small chance a fully vaccinated person could still get infected if they're exposed.

"Current data suggest that COVID-19 vaccines authorized for use in the United States offer protection against most variants currently spreading in the United States. However, some variants might cause illness in some people even after they are fully vaccinated," CDC spokesperson Jade Fulce told CNN in an email on Friday.

While Covid-19 vaccines are effective, Fulce said no vaccine is "100% effective at preventing illness."

And with millions of people getting vaccinated against the virus, some who are fully vaccinated "will still get sick if they are exposed," Fulce said.

    Stoopid antivaxxers. Clever kids.

Sounds like the dad is a trumpanzee, mum is lucky to be rid of that moron.

Teenagers keep all sorts of secrets from their parents. Drinking. Sex. Lousy grades.

But the secret that Elizabeth, 17, a rising high-school senior from New York City, keeps from hers is new to the buffet of adolescent misdeeds. She doesn’t want her parents to know that she is vaccinated against Covid-19.

Her divorced parents have equal say over her health care. Although her mother strongly favors the vaccine, her father angrily opposes it and has threatened to sue her mother if Elizabeth gets the shot. Elizabeth is keeping her secret not only from her father, but also her mother, so her mom can have plausible deniability. (Elizabeth asked to be identified only by her middle name.)
