Coronavirus may have been a 'cell-culture experiment' gone wrong | Sky News Australia“We found that the COVID-19 virus was particularly well-adapted to bind to human cells and that was far superior to its ability to bind to the cells of any other animal species which is quite unusual because typically when a virus is well-adapted to an animal and then it by chance crosses to a human, typically, you would expect it to have lower-binding to human cells than to the original host animal. We found the opposite so that was a big surprise,” he said.
Scientists worldwide have, to date, overwhelmingly said the virus was more likely originated in a wet-market and was not created in a laboratory. Even the United States Office of National Intelligence ruled out COVID-19 being created in a laboratory.
Asked why scientists have had this view, Professor Petrovsky said scientists “try not to be political” and do not want their research impacted adversely by tighter laboratory controls.
“We just try to base our findings on facts rather than taking particular political positions but sometimes obviously the alternatives may have unintended consequences,” he said.
“For instance, if it was to turn out that this virus may have come about because of an accidental lab release that would have implications for how we do viral research in laboratories all around the world which could make doing research much harder.
“So I think the inclination of virus researchers would be to presume that it came from an animal until proven otherwise because that would have less ramifications for how we are able to do research in the future. The alternative obviously has quite major implications for science and science on viruses, not just obviously political ramifications which we’re all well aware of.”
Well there you go then, hopefully the end of the 'not enough has been done about A so let's do nothing about B' arguments...
WHO warns of “second peak” in areas where COVID-19 declining
Countries where coronavirus infections are declining could still face an “immediate second peak” if they let up too soon on measures to halt the outbreak, the World Health Organization said on Monday.
The world is still in the middle of the first wave of the coronavirus outbreak, WHO emergencies head Dr Mike Ryan told an online briefing, noting that while cases are declining in many countries they are still increasing in Central and South America, South Asia and Africa.
Ryan said epidemics often come in waves, which means that outbreaks could come back later this year in places where the first wave has subsided. There was also a chance that infection rates could rise again more quickly if measures to halt the first wave were lifted too soon.
“When we speak about a second wave classically what we often mean is there will be a first wave of the disease by itself, and then it recurs months later. And that may be a reality for many countries in a number of months’ time,” Ryan said.
“But we need also to be cognizant of the fact that the disease can jump up at any time. We cannot make assumptions that just because the disease is on the way down now it is going to keep going down and we are get a number of months to get ready for a second wave. We may get a second peak in this wave.”
He said countries in Europe and North America should “continue to put in place the public health and social measures, the surveillance measures, the testing measures and a comprehensive strategy to ensure that we continue on a downwards trajectory and we don’t have an immediate second peak.”
Many European countries and U.S. states have taken steps in recent weeks to lift lockdown measures that curbed the spread of the disease but caused severe harm to economies.

Hopefully the link from Oz will work...
So no, it won't work. It's from abc . net . au and titled:The so-called "Western governments dossier" used by the Saturday Telegraph and sister newspaper the Daily Telegraph was, in fact, a widely distributed — and deniable — background document created by the US State Department.
The document contained no new evidence linking the laboratory to the outbreak and instead relied on publicly available news and scientific journal papers.
The private meeting occurred as a result of a Saturday Telegraph front page exclusive earlier this month headlined "China's Batty Science" and several subsequent articles.
They all relied heavily on the so-called "dossier", which the newspapers said had connections to the world's most powerful intelligence-sharing network, the Five Eyes alliance.
The publication led to concerns in Canberra that the US was trying to push faulty information into the Australian system in order to bolster its case alleging the Chinese Government was responsible for releasing the virus.
"It was a very unhelpful action by a very close friend at a very critical time," Labor MP and deputy chair of Parliament's intelligence and security committee Anthony Byrne told the ABC.
"We hope we don't see too many more of these sorts of interventions."
Concerns about the Telegraph stories were first reported by the Sydney Morning Herald, but this is the first confirmation of what the 15-page "dossier" actually is and what it states.

Thanks David. That is sort of contradictory to the Sky News article in post #6154...no?
Why would the US State Dept. be pointing fingers at the Wuhan Lab considering the Newsweek story I posted yesterday? The one that shows Dr. Fauci did an an end run around the Obama Admin's ending of GOF research in the US by funding that research in Wuhan China... This one:
Dr. Fauci Backed Controversial Wuhan Lab with U.S. Dollars for Risky Coronavirus Research
WTAF...a couple of quotes from Newsweek:
The NIH research consisted of two parts. The first part began in 2014 and involved surveillance of bat coronaviruses, and had a budget of $3.7 million. The program funded Shi Zheng-Li, a virologist at the Wuhan lab, and other researchers to investigate and catalogue bat coronaviruses in the wild. This part of the project was completed in 2019.Nevertheless, in 2014, under pressure from the Obama administration, the National of Institutes of Health instituted a moratorium on the work[in the US], suspending 21 studies.
My missus has lived in the West for many year so is very aware of life away from Isaan, is fairly well educated and well aware of the dangers of pla rah.
She's also as stubborn as fuk.
We have a tank full of catfish (pla duuk) that are all destined to become pla rah. Any pla duuk I catch on the pond get turned into pla rah. She loves the stuff.
What can ya do?
So, a 50/50 chance of either. In other words, he does not actually know - but he's not ruling anything out.“The two possibilities which I think are both still open is that it was a chance transmission of a virus from an as yet unidentified animal to human. The other possibility is that it was an accidental release of the virus from a laboratory,” [Nikolai Petrovsky] said.
The Trump effect. The truth matters little. Political point scoring matters much more.

It's only advisory and not enforced.
I don't think there was a "deliberate release". There is the possibility of a lab accident. But an equal possibility that it came from the chinky obsession with eating bats and pangolins to make their tiny dicks bigger.
It's up to Chinastan to make concrete efforts to stamp out medical ignorance, and also to stop the trade in exotic animals, especially the ones that carry viruses. They have the tools, let them "reeducate" or "disappear" a few of their own for a fucking change. That should sort it out.
Meanwhile, they need to own up to hiding the Wuhan virus from the rest of the world and pay compensation.
Everyone except the tin foil hatter hates the fuckers for what they've done, the least they can do is try some meaningful action and a bit of sackcloth and ashes.
Sending out muppets like HooHoo to claim the virus originated in seppoland just makes them look bigger c u n t s to be honest.
Maybe true, but doesn't negate what I said.
True, but also doesn't negate what I said.More generally, people just want this shit over with.
I'd rather the fucking chinkies raised the alarm as soon as they knew it was human-transmissible so containment efforts could have started a lot sooner.
Not letting five million of them fuck off on new year holidays would have been a good start.
