You imagine that this is the biggest ground for infection and spread of such a virus.

Absolutely foked if I'd be getting on a major city's underground system.

Mixed reports in the Thai media.

An IO that was manning the International Arrivals desks at swampypoom has either:

    Been infected.

Or is hospital being treated for 'symptoms' of it.

Looks like the swampy IO has been confirmed, along with another airport worker.

Officials are reportedly trying to trace everyone she met after going to a reception with the PM on the day she felt ill.

That's what I keep saying. I'm more afraid of our politicians then the virus. This will also be a test for the EU, which I'm sure they will fail. Brexiteers always had a good point about this bureaucratic monster. The EU is only swallowing up money and handing it out to even more useless politicians, that have failed in their own country.

    An email from a good mate who is a senior figure at Royal Darwin Hospital;

"It is going to get more serious as each week goes on.

At work we are seeing health conferences being cancelled that were to be held in May.

I think it will become more difficult to travel in the coming weeks and months".

    So I'm not going.

BANGKOK — Expats and tourists must rely on their own funds or insurance to pay for their treatment if they test positive for coronavirus in Thailand, government officials said.
While Thai patients are covered by the universal healthcare program, either by the so-called 30 baht welfare or labor social security, foreigners must foot the bill, according to several government spokespersons interviewed for this story.

Heaven forbid if you are one of those that I have seen wear the same mask day after day....
May I ask a simple question?

Thailand announces $12.7 billion stimulus package

Thailand’s government on Tuesday approved a stimulus package worth 400 billion baht ($12.7 billion) to support its economy weather challenges posed by the coronavirus outbreak, Reuters reported.

Measures in the package include loans and tax benefits for those affected by the outbreak, the report said.

The Thai economy is heavily reliant on global demand. The country’s exports have been hit by global trade tensions and tourism — one of the bright spots — is not hurt by the virus outbreak. — Lee

UBS says virus outbreak ‘passed its worst’ in China

There’s a “semblance” that production capability is returning to the Chinese economy, UBS Global Wealth Management’s Kelvin Tay told CNBC. That could make China become the “first in the world” to get back on track, he said.

Commenting on the potential economic impact of the virus’ spread elsewhere, Tay said 60% of China’s economy is “basically domestic consumption,” which is likely to serve as “buffer” if production can be brought back up to speed and consumption resumes. — Huang

This guy is full of shit.
    How about this:
"Second wave of covid-2019 will hit China"
    or
"Third wave of covid-2019 will hit China"

Did China become immune overnight? Wait till they all come crawling out of their holes again and we shall see.

Presumably the ones that work here and pay (forced to pay) into the government insurance/pension thing every month would be covered.

And that's fair enough. Ok, nobody could have seen this coming but you could argue the point that foreigners having sudden heart-attacks or catching pneumonia are unforeseeable events too and in such examples, the foreigner has to take care of their own medical bills. So I'm not seeing why this would be any different.

indeed, the infection can spread again, it will go away with summer

this whole situation should start questioning global travelling for chinese as long as they don't change their diet

they should be banned, under Communist China, that would have never happened

and of course we Europeans are paying for it twice, with jobs being exported, and now the Chinese importing back their disease to us, and what's left of our industries being damaged economically

this is a major clusterfuck!!! think 2008 subprime

I think I get lopped something like 750 baht per month. Had about 1/2 a million worth of treatment. My last trip to get a blood test/consultation and three months of drugs cost me about 600 baht, and I can claim that back through other options.

^ Yeah, that's the one. Think even Thai employees have 750thb deducted each money, which is quite a bit for a Thai that is earning a low Thai salary and has a family to take care of.

I think (not 100% sure, but think) that the deduction is pro-rated to salary. 750 is the max.

    A/C triggers it, no joke

the virus develops when you are weak and develop a cold, it stays dormant if you have nothing

for people with medical conditions, it gets triggered, it's basically targeting the weak

As some of you know my daughter is a RN/Anesthesiologist. She took a new position at a Hospital in Texas last month. Her comments in a message to me today

"You know dad, people are out of control. Our emergency and waiting rooms are full of people feeling like they might have the virus. Some may have it but all those people coming to the hospital are risking spreading it to not only the patients but us medical staff. There is no cure. It has been stated everywhere. They should stay home and self quarantine. Sad how ignorant people are.
