None of that was going to make a dent on the overall results no matter how hard they tried. In fact it probably would have stuck out like a sore thumb if they did overdo it.

Australia hits 'magnificent milestone' with 80% rate of vaccinations

MELBOURNE - Australia reached on Saturday a full inoculation rate of 80% of those aged 16 and older, which Prime Minister Scott Morrison called a "magnificent milestone" on the path to becoming one of the world's most vaccinated countries against COVID-19.

Once a champion of a COVID-zero strategy to manage the pandemic, the country of 25 million has moved towards living with the virus through extensive vaccinations, as the Delta variant has proven too infectious to suppress.

"Another, magnificent milestone, Australia," Morrison said in a video post on Facebook. "That's four out of five, how good is that? This has been a true Australian national effort."

While vaccinations remain voluntary on the federal level, Australia's states and territories introduced mandatory measures for many occupations and workers. The unvaccinated are barred from many activities, such as dining out or concerts.

On Monday, Australia eased international border curbs for the first time during the pandemic, but only for vaccinated people from highly inoculated states.

Media said about 3,000 people gathered for a peaceful protest against vaccine mandate protests in Melbourne, the capital of the southeastern state of Victoria, which spent nearly nine months in six lockdowns through the pandemic.

Australia has seen frequent, occasionally violent anti-vaccine rallies during the past few months, but the movement remains small, with polls showing the numbers of those who oppose vaccinations are in the single digits across the nation.

The nationwide vaccination figure incorporates some uneven levels, however.

Nearly 90% of eligible people have been fully vaccinated in the most populous state of New South Wales, and almost 95% in the capital Canberra, but this figure drops to just 65% in the sparsely populated Northern Territory and Western Australia.

The country recorded 1,558 infections and 10 deaths on Saturday, with the majority of infections in Victoria. Some parts of the Northern Territory are in a snap, three-day lockdown, after an outbreak grew to three cases.

Despite the Delta outbreaks that led to months of lockdown in the two largest cities, Sydney and Melbourne, the national tally of less than 179,000 infections and 1,587 deaths is far lower than that of many developed nations. REUTERS

More heartbreak for the sheep deworming club.

“Based on the outcomes of the I-TECH study, ivermectin cannot be recommended for inclusion in current Covid-19 treatment guidelines as ivermectin does not reduce risk of severe illness from Covid-19,” Health director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said in a statement today.

“Until further supportive evidence becomes available, practitioners are cautioned not to recommend ivermectin including sharing illegal advertising or sale of ivermectin for treatment of Covid-19.”

New data from the Texas health department released Monday proves what health officials have been trying to tell vaccine-hesitant Texans for months: The COVID-19 vaccine dramatically prevents death and is the best tool to prevent transmission of the deadly virus.

Out of nearly 29,000 Texans who have died from COVID-related illnesses since mid-January, only 8% of them were fully vaccinated against the virus, according to a report detailing the Texas Department of State Health Services’ findings.

People ‘unvaccinated by choice’ in Singapore will no longer receive free COVID-19 treatment

Eighty-five percent of people in Singapore eligible for coronavirus vaccines are fully vaccinated, and 18% have received booster shots.
But the Singaporean government said Monday that it will no longer cover the medical costs of people “unvaccinated by choice,” who make up the bulk of remaining new COVID-19 cases and hospitalizations in the city-state.
“Currently, unvaccinated persons make up a sizable majority of those who require intensive inpatient care, and disproportionately contribute to the strain on our health care resources,” the Ministry of Health said in a statement Monday.
“COVID-19 patients who are unvaccinated by choice may still tap on regular health care financing arrangements to pay for their bills where applicable,” the ministry added.

So some antivax nurse in Oz put the word out that she would fake vaccinations. And she's been tumbled.

As have the people that asked for her.

One of which even tried to claim his kid had an adverse reaction to a vaccine he never even got.

A quarter of a billion known infections reached, but we know it's a lot more than that with undiagnosed asymptompatic infections and the chinkies and russians lying through their teeth as usual.

Nov 8 (Reuters) - Global COVID-19 cases surpassed 250 million on Monday as some countries in eastern Europe experience record outbreaks, even as the Delta variant surge eases and many countries resume trade and tourism.
The daily average number of cases has fallen by 36% over the past three months, according to a Reuters analysis, but the virus is still infecting 50 million people worldwide every 90 days due to the highly transmissible Delta variant.

By contrast, it took nearly a year to record the first 50 million COVID-19 cases.
Health experts are optimistic that many nations have put the worst of the pandemic behind them thanks to vaccines and natural exposure, although they caution that colder weather and upcoming holiday gatherings could increase cases.

"We think between now and the end of 2022, this is the point where we get control over this virus ... where we can significantly reduce severe disease and death," Maria Van Kerkhove, an epidemiologist leading the World Health Organisation, told Reuters on Nov. 3.

Looks like Modi is lifting the export embargo in India which means up to 30 million doses a month going to Covax soon.

NEW DELHI, Nov 9 (Reuters) - India could resume deliveries of COVID-19 shots to global vaccine-sharing platform COVAX in a few weeks for the first time since April, two health industry sources said, ending a suspension of supplies that has hurt poor countries.
The World Health Organization (WHO), which co-leads COVAX, has been urging India to restart supplies for the programme, especially after it sent about 4 million doses to its neighbours and partners in October.

Based on an informal approval from India, COVAX officials have started planning allocations of the Covishield shot for various countries, said one of the sources, both of whom declining to be identified pending a final agreement.
Covishield is a licensed version of the AstraZeneca (AZN.L) shot made by the Serum Institute of India (SII), the world's biggest vaccine maker.

SII has nearly quadrupled its output of Covishield to up to 240 million doses a month since April, when India stopped all exports in order to inoculate its own people during a surge of cases.

Aussie trumpanzees furiously trying to dox her no doubt.

An Australian woman has become a millionaire after winning the country's vaccine lottery prize.

Joanne Zhu, 25, was among almost three million Australians who were in the draw for the AU$1m (£550,000) cash prize just for receiving a COVID-19 vaccine.

The money was put up by a group of philanthropists and companies known as the Million Dollar Vax Alliance in an effort to get more Australians vaccinated against COVID-19.

Ms Zhu, from Sydney, told Nine's Today programme that she had been unable to take the initial call from the lottery's organisers because she was at work.

She added: "Then I called them back and she said: "Oh, you won a million dollars! You're the only one in Australia'."

Ms Zhu said she plans to spend some of the money on reuniting with her family.

"I want to fly my family out from China first class and put them up in a five star hotel for Chinese New Year if the borders are open.

Thousands protest in New Zealand against COVID-19 rules

New Zealand beefed up security measures at its parliament on Tuesday as thousands of people gathered to protest against COVID-19 vaccine mandates and government lockdowns aimed at controlling the pandemic.

All but two entrances to the parliament building, known as the Beehive, were closed off in unprecedented security measures, as mostly unmasked protesters marched through central Wellington and congregated outside parliament.

While the demonstration was peaceful, many people were seen holding signs and placards with messages like “Freedom” and “Kiwis are not lab rats” and shouting slogans as they demanded the government roll back compulsory vaccination and lift restrictions.

Placards showing support to former U.S. President Donald Trump and slamming the media as “fake” and lying were also displayed.

“I will not be coerced and I will not be forced into taking something I don’t want in my body,” a protester said outside parliament.

“I’m asking (the government) to give us back 2018. Simple as that. I want my freedoms back.”

New Zealand has struggled to fight off a highly infectious outbreak of the Delta variant this year, forcing Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern to move from its strategy of elimination through lockdowns to living with the virus with higher vaccinations.

Ardern last month said the country would require teachers and workers in the health and disability sectors to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19, inviting criticism from people calling for more freedoms and for ending mandatory vaccine requirements.

“Treat us like people!” another protester exclaimed when asked about the government’s stance on mandating the vaccine.

“I’m here for freedom. The government, what they’re doing, is anti-freedom.”

Speaking to reporters inside parliament, Ardern said: “What we saw today was not representative of the vast bulk of New Zealanders.”

But the prime minister has been facing growing political pressure and public protests to ease pandemic measures ahead of the Christmas holidays.

She plans to travel to Auckland on Wednesday when the lockdown measures enforced on the city nearly three months ago eases. She is expected to face more protests during her visit.

New Zealand still has among the lowest COVID-19 cases in the world with under 8,000 cases reported so far and 32 deaths. It reported 125 new cases on Tuesday and its total double-dose vaccination rate had reached nearly 80% of its eligible population.

Turns out covid is not bipartisan after all.

As 2020 wound down, there were good reasons to believe that the death toll during the pandemic’s first year might have been worse in red America. There were also good reasons to think it might have been worse in blue America.
Conservative areas tend to be older, less prosperous and more hostile to mask wearing, all of which can exacerbate the spread or severity of COVID-19. Liberal areas, for their part, are home both to more busy international airports and more Americans who suffer the health consequences of racial discrimination.
Sign up for The Morning newsletter from the New York Times
But it turned out that these differences largely offset each other in 2020 — or maybe they didn’t matter as much as some people assumed. Either way, the per capita death toll in blue America and red America was similar by the final weeks of 2020.
It was only a few percentage points higher in counties where Donald Trump had won at least 60% of the vote than in counties where Joe Biden crossed that threshold. In counties where neither candidate won 60%, the death toll was higher than in either Trump or Biden counties. There simply was not a strong partisan pattern to COVID during the first year that it was circulating in the United States.
    Then the vaccines arrived.
They proved so powerful, and the partisan attitudes toward them so different, that a gap in COVID’s death toll quickly emerged.
The gap in COVID’s death toll between red and blue America has grown faster over the past month than at any previous point.
In October, 25 out of every 100,000 residents of heavily Trump counties died from COVID, more than three times higher than the rate in heavily Biden counties (7.8 per 100,000). October was the fifth consecutive month that the percentage gap between the death rates in Trump counties and Biden counties widened.
Some conservative writers have tried to claim that the gap may stem from regional differences in weather or age, but those arguments fall apart under scrutiny. (If weather or age were a major reason, the pattern would have begun to appear last year.) The true explanation is straightforward: The vaccines are remarkably effective at preventing severe COVID, and almost 40% of Republican adults remain unvaccinated, compared with about 10% of Democratic adults.
Charles Gaba, a Democratic health care analyst, has pointed out that the gap is also evident at finer gradations of political analysis: Counties where Trump received at least 70% of the vote have an even higher average COVID death toll than counties where Trump won at least 60%.
As a result, COVID deaths have been concentrated in counties outside of major metropolitan areas. Many of these are in red states, while others are in red parts of blue or purple states, like Arizona, Michigan, Nevada, New Mexico, Pennsylvania, Oregon, Virginia and even California.
This situation is a tragedy, in which irrational fears about vaccine side effects have overwhelmed rational fears about a deadly virus. It stems from disinformation — promoted by right-wing media, like Rupert Murdoch’s Fox News, the Sinclair Broadcast Group and online sources — that preys on the distrust that results from stagnant living standards.

Russia Becomes World Leader in Weekly Covid Deaths

Russia become the world leader in coronavirus deaths last week for the first time since the start of the pandemic.

With 8,311 deaths registered by the World Health Organization (WHO) during the week of Nov. 1-7, Russia passed the United States in absolute figures.

The U.S. registered 8,101 Covid deaths during the same period, representing a 15% drop-off from the previous week.

Russia's figures from last week risk repeating or even rising this week as the country marked a new record of 1,211 virus deaths on Tuesday.

Russia has Europe’s fifth-highest total coronavirus death toll with an official count of 249,215.

A Moscow Times analysis of the most recently available official statistics placed Russia’s excess death toll since the start of the pandemic — and before the latest and deadliest wave of the virus — at 723,350.

And though the infection growth rate slowed during last week's paid nationwide vacation for non-essential workers, Russia still counted its highest number of new coronavirus infections since the start of the pandemic on Saturday.

The Kremlin, which has grappled with rampant vaccine hesitancy despite several widely available shots including Sputnik V, said Monday that it is too early to assess the effect of Russia’s “non-working period.”

Warning: Be cautious if you are a fragile pink

Kampala, November 7, 2021 – On November 6 and November 7, the United States delivered a total of 3,488,940 doses of the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine to Uganda. Combined with previous donations, the United States has now provided more than 5.8 million COVID-19 vaccine doses to Uganda.
“These recently delivered 3.5 million Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine doses represent the largest ever donation of COVID-19 vaccines to Uganda and the third donation of COVID-19 vaccines from the people of the United States to the people of Uganda,” U.S. Ambassador to Uganda Natalie E. Brown said. “This donation underscores the United States’ commitment to support Uganda’s COVID-19 response and protect the health of the Ugandan people. Ugandans can count on the United States to support their efforts to fight the pandemic and get their economy back on track,” Ambassador Brown further noted.

One of Germany's top virologists has warned that a further 100,000 people will die from Covid if nothing's done to halt an aggressive fourth wave.

Case numbers have soared and Germany on Wednesday registered its highest rate of infection since the pandemic began, with almost 40,000 cases in a day.

"We have to act right now," said Christian Drosten, who described a real emergency situation.

Doctors in the intensive care Covid ward at Leipzig University Hospital warn this fourth wave could be the worst yet.

One patient here, a woman in her 20s, has just given birth. Her baby is fine, but staff say they don't know whether she'll survive.

This state of Saxony has the highest seven-day infection rate in Germany at 459 cases per 100,000 people. The national rate is 232.

It also has the lowest take-up of vaccine: 57% of the population here have been vaccinated.

There are 18 patients on the Covid ward. Just four were vaccinated.

"It's very difficult to get staff motivated to treat patients now in this fourth wave," says Prof Sebastian Stehr, who heads the department. "A large part of the population still underestimates the problem."

By now, Prof Sehr says, most people will know someone who's had Covid and should, therefore, be aware of the risk of infection. "Nevertheless," he adds, "we are still seeing so many patients who are not vaccinated."

Germany's health minister has publicly blamed those people for the soaring cases, describing the current situation as a "pandemic of the unvaccinated".

US to donate 1 million doses of Moderna vaccine to Thailand

The United States government has notified Ministry of Foreign Affairs that it will donate 1 million doses of Moderna Covid-19 vaccine to Thailand under the government-to-government contract, said Dr Opas Karnkawinpong, director-general of the Department of Disease Control (DDC) on Wednesday.

“The contract will be between US’ Department of Health and Human Services and Thailand’s DDC, which stipulates that we must not seek profit from the donated vaccine, such as by reselling them,” he said. “It also mandates that if the recipients suffer from adverse effects, the government must provide treatment and/or compensation and cannot deny the responsibility.”

Opas added that vaccine donation is usually done via government agencies and not through private companies as they have limited jurisdiction power and might not be able to take full responsibility in case of severe side effects or deaths.

“So far, Thailand has received almost 10 million doses of Covid-19 vaccine through donations from eight countries,” he added. “The procedures have been handled by the Department of Disease Control which include import application, selecting transportation companies and other customs procedures. We also have been working closely with Ministry of Foreign Affairs, who is responsible for negotiating vaccine donation deal with the government of each country.”:

Ohh Jezzus, not again! When the arguments fail the peaceful Limeys have to bring up the war again.

Maybe you should try concentrating on reading first before you play with numbers.

I agreed with you many posts ago and I just pointed out that by % we are still below the idiot scale world wide. Just trying to point out that you and the U.K. take the cake when it comes to imbeciles, and with YOU I got the best proof.
